Lead Trumpet Player Maynard Ferguson died on August 23rd. He was best known for his insanely huge range. the man pretty much invented the trumpet-squeel. http://www.maynardferguson.com/

His tone was pretty loud and obnoxious...us trumpet players refer to it as "laser-tone" as its so penetrating.

anyway he played mostly in a big band setting...but his music was entertaining...not very "groundbreaking" but a respectable musician at any rate.

I read about this. There was a quote from some promoter related to Maynard in some way. He said:

'Y'know, up in Heavan, someone just said: "Yo Gabriel, move over to second trumpet".'

The guy was talented, but this would imply that he was the greatest trumpeter to ever have existed. The answer to that is:

Well I feel sorry for his relatives, but I've always hated trumphets....

and <3 Maynard Keenan

he asked if you play the trumpet... you should've answered "yes" or "no"

he didn't ask "so you play the trumpet, how many instruments can you play?"
