McDonald "Eat In" and "Take Out" Tax

From what I've been able to gather from personal experience, if you a) eat in or b) have the meal cooked, you will pay a tax. Try going to Subway and ordering an untoasted sub to go, then a toasted sub.

Its based on state tax law, meaning its different depends on where you are. In Ohio you will pay tax to eat in, but never when ordering a meal to go. Drinks may be taxed either way however. When I am across the river in KY and I get hungry I get screwed out of the extra change.

Weird.

AFAIK, it's the same tax rate here in Georgia on prepared food whether you eat there or take it home (and it's the individual county's prevailing sales tax rate).

Food purchased at a grocery store or supermarket is treated differently/taxed less.

This was how it was in NY as well, any prepared food would be taxed, anything you have to cook yourself is non-taxable.

I think, probably, it's similar everywhere.

This is true. Unprepared food is considered a food product; cooked food is considered a "service", and services are taxable.
