Metal Awards!

for the past 2 years in Perth there has been a mini awards for WA bands organized by Western Front where by internet nerd users can nominate and vote in a few categories such as best band, best release etc. and the winners announced at a gig (which of course the best voted bands play), it has been quite successful both years. maybe a national version of this could be organized?

I didn't even know the Online Metal Awards were given out last year.

That idea has merit junak, but I couldn't really see it working on a national level. The WF awards are run by the WF and voted on by the regulars. If you took it to a national level, you'd have "street teams" and shit stacking the vote so that, for example, Daysend or Frankenbok or something would win everything in the Australian categories, and you'd have bands like SOAD or Soilwork or someone "popular" winning everything else. Obviously, an event like this IS a popularity contest, but it should be something of a contest, not a walk-up start for charting acts.
