Hello, long time listener, first time caller!

Need help from you metal gurus. Long story short a mate of mine is trying to educate the youth of today about classic 70's/80's metal and is wanting to give them some recommendations.

Now these kids are drummers and are serious double kick fans and although I've listened to metal for 20 years I can't give a 'musicians' opinion as to what is good and bad drumming. I just know what I like! :headbang:

For starters I suggested When Eagles Dare as we've all heard the stories about how impressed the guys were when they first heard this. Painkiller always seems to be a favourite, Reign In Blood...um...help!!!

Anything from Motley/Maiden/Anthrax/Priest/Sabbath/'deth etc etc is what he is going to feed them for starters.

Cheers guys :headbang:

1984 by Van Halen, with particular attention to the intro to "Hot for Teacher". Also check out Les Binks' drumming on Priest's Stained Class. Tommy Lee is also a fantastic rock drummer. For metal, get some Dark Angel for Gene Hoglan's early work, and Tom Hunting's work on the first three Exodus albums is worth checking out also. And Charlie Benante from Anthrax!
