They pack the Key Club for a reason and don't put the screws to them for it.

Monday night at the Key was a ghost town til they set up shop..

They worked there ass off to pack that place every Monday night.

Give them there props and they know how to market themselves.

Its all good...I dont think they realized that Metal Skool is a paraody of the 80s.

Rumor has it that Metal Skool has changed their name to "Steel Panther" (for reasons I don't know). They are an entertaining band, and, yes, a PARODY! They play lots of the popular 80s glam/hard rock covers. The songs are shortened (so they can spend more time between songs heckling the audience and each other, telling stories, etc.), and they use LOTS of pre-recorded backing tracks (backing vocals, rhythm guitar). But their shows are always a lot of fun!

I just watched a video with David Draiman and Dennis Rodman performing with Metal Skool, their language towards the women lacked class in every respect of the word. If it's all an act then it's a sucky act.

I agree with you, Schmidt. It's not cool to treat people like that, and it's also not cool to treat the music like that. The idea of doing a parody of classic metal is lame. That music is always going to be a hugely important part of many people's lives. To treat the audience and the music with disdain just doesn't make sense. It's too bad so many folks think of '80's metal as not being valid.

Some people just dont seem to have a sense of humour any more.

Its all an act, like many an adult comedien, A la roy Chubby brown, and Kevin Bloody wilson, they shows probably carry a disclaimer saying if easily offended then stay away.

I thought it was funny, I looked up some clips on youtube.

I was into bands like Poison, skid row, bon jovi, Ratt quireboys and *gulp* Winger. And I can laugh at the image of it all. We seek humour in things close at heart.

My attitude is that if you dont like it then stay away.

When Imet roy Chubby brown, he was a very charming, softly spoken well mannered person, whom I found out hates people swearing in front of women and children, NOTHING at all like his stage persona.

Theres a huge difference between a comedy act poking fun than someone who actually believes women are inferior or are nothing but sex symbols. Its a paraody of the excesses of the time.

I've never seen the show myself, but they are apparently quite the draw in Hollyweird. Honestly, great parody or not, I wasn't a big fan of the hair metal stuff back in the 80s, so I don't think I would enjoy it. As far as parodies go, it is all about Spinal Tap.:headbang:

Yes, Spinal Tap was a great parody. But they also had some amount of respect for their subject matter.

Dont get me wrong guys, I understand some people can get upset at this sort of thing.

I have spinal Tap's DVD its funny, but not hilarious. The only bit that I found made me laugh a lot was the stonehenge bit.

Perhaps its my sense of humour, which I freely admit is very black and often profound.
I grew up watching monty python as a kid and whilst most people find it stupid I think its hilarious.

I rarely take offence to any comedy, even when its out to shock, like southpark, Family guy, american dad etc.

And lets face it, the excesses of the 80's hairmetal is funny, many people have commented on bands like Motley Crue etc, and many musicians paid the ultimate price for the excesses. But that does not mean we cannot laugh at it, that we cannot see the humour in it now, that we have to be all serious about that part of our lives.

and for the record, I am the kind of guy that laughs when people hurt themselves, I cant help it.

There is a difference when comedy comes from a place of heart and when it comes from a place of bitter desperation. Metal Skool gives me a bitter and hateful vibe, not a fun one.

I :worship: Monty Python.

I found Spinal Tap hilarious. I read an interview with Bruce Dickinson where he said that he thought the film came too close to reality.

Parody is in the eye of the beholder I guess. But one thing that I sense, there is a deep love for the spirit of the subject when parody is done right. It is an exact science and you always run the risk of offending people, especially if apparent misogyny is a part of your act.

and for the record, I am the kind of guy that laughs when people hurt themselves, I cant help it.

I remember when poor Frank fell of the bridge, I was losing it!

You should try watching Spinal Tap while doing mushrooms, what a trip!

i heard their new manager asked them to change their name to steel panther so they could have a fresh start. i saw them at the key club on st. patty's day. big from mtv's "rob & big" was there. ryan cabrera took the stage and sang with them.

the band is very entertaining. they put on a good live show. the misogyny, sexism and racism during their onstage banter is obviously part of the act. they're parodying the bonehead mentality some of these guys had during the 80s (remember sebastian bach's "AIDS kills fags dead" t-shirt?). it's metal. it's EIGHTIES metal. it's a parody. it's an exaggeration. it's un-PC, close-minded and not for the easily offended. the crowd ate it up. i personally thought it was funny, especially after a few beers haha it's not SMART, but it's funny & entertaining.

may only complaint was their song selection. they seem to pick songs that please the ladies. all the big, cheesy hits from 1985-1990: bon jovi, def leppard, warrant, etc. the only REAL metal they played was "i wanna rock" and "rock you like a hurricane" (which they hilariously introduced as something off motley crue's first album. i got all excited 'cos i was anticipating "live wire"). haha but being a parody, maybe that's the POINT: to play all the big, cheesy late 80s hits. i'd definitely bring a couple friends and go see them again... :headbang:

Here I am trying for clarity again... is Metal Skool (or Steel Panther or Silver Ocelot or whatever they're calling themselves this week) the band that is fronted by the fellow who also front(s/ed) Atomic Punks?

Parody or not, the only reason I stayed there as long as I did ... I was trying to find my ride. I have vague recollections of the 60's, 70's and 80's and I don't remember any of it being that vulgar. IF they can really play and sing, they should have STFU and given a decent performance.
