metalcore mix i'm working on

hey, not bad... agree about the guitar sound. more importantly though there's some kind of intonation/tuning problem going on. could be the guitar, could be the player's fingers. suss that well before you commit to any final recordings.

any tips on how to improve the guitarsound? at the moment they are actually all un eq-ed, the only processing on them is some slight buss compression.

we recorded 4 tracks (no DI signals, so no reamping)
guitar was Hohner flying V with EMG 81 and .012 strings in B wich probably is causing the detuning. I've been talking to the guitarplayer to get some thicker strings, hope that will solve the detuning problem.
main amp was marshall JCM 800 2204, second amp was 5150 (crunch channel), TS 9 in front, cab was marshall JCM 800 with G35H's
mics were 57 and 906 both edge of dustcap, 1 inch from the cloth.
preamp was my mackie onyx 1640.

On the small "typhoon soundsystem" speakers i'm listening on right know it sounds pretty good actually! nice drum and basssound!
Are drums natural or augmented with samples?
I prolly won't have to ask about the basssound:goggly:

it sounds like there is too many mids in the guitar tone... sounds like you mic'd up a small practice amp... too much midrange fizz... best way for me to describe it.

maybe adjust the amp settings differently... ok, DEFINITELY change them... my $.02

Drums dont sound half bad... except the cymbals... they sound fake as hell.

Bass sounds good... +1

haha, i'm wondering how i could have made the cymbals sound fake, since the drums are real as hell. kick is triggered with an own sample (91 inside + 602 outside), snare is blended about 60% accoustic and 40% own sample. OH's are rode NT1000 in AB, with highpass @ 500 Hz, a little dip around 1,6 kHz and some slight compression to smooth them up a bit.

bass is musicman stingray recorded with 3 tracks:
-1 clean DI, lowpassed @ 100 Hz, highpassed @ 40 Hz and compressed to hell
-them somes the TS 9 in front of the SanSamp wich is the next channel recorded. this was highpassed @ 100 Hz and scooped out a lot of 3,5 kHz with a narrow Q, lowshelf to 230 Hz, scooped out some 450 Hz too
-amp was ashdown MAG300 through a MAG810 cab, miced up with a D112 wich was left pretty dynamic in the mix and only pulled of 2 db's of low end (160 Hz and below)

I'll try to scoop out some mids in the guitars and see how that sound, however i tend to like my guitars more middy than the average metalhead :) this was actually my first recording i recall have the mids on the amp set below 12 o clock. The 81's have pretty much mids and so does the G35H cab.
