According to The Pulse Of Radio, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo spoke with VH1 Classic about "Jaco: The Film", the new documentary he has produced about late, legendary bass player Jaco Pastorius. Trujillo explained: "Back in the day, being a young, inspired bass player, I started to gravitate toward jazz fusion... I got into that, and I started hearing about this bass player called Jaco one name, right to the point, you know and it was intriguing; everyone started talking about this guy. It was like, 'Whoa.' I was intrigued by the mystique of the name alone. Trujillo first saw Pastorius play at the Santa Monica Civic Center in the late '70s, saying: "There was baby powder on the stage I remember him sliding into his bass guitar like it was home plate. You know what I mean? And the backdrop was the New York City skyline or something. And it was really an entertaining experience." Trujillo said that hearing Pastorius' first solo album was "mind-boggling," calling the bassist a "beautiful monster." "Jaco", which was named the official film of this past weekend's Record Store Day, is currently in post-production and will be released this fall. The documentary was directed by Stephen Kijak and Paul Marchand and produced by Robert Trujillo and John Battsek. Pastorius, who was bipolar and had wrestled with substance abuse, died in 1987 at age 35 following a violent altercation at a Fort Lauderdale bar. "Jaco" will feature commentaries from Sting, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' Flea, Carlos Santana and director Mike Figgis, among others.
