Metallica's Demise

Thats still a few months off though...depends on how fucked shit is within the band. Would suck to see them if theyre all pissed off at each other and not a cohesive band unit.

Maybe afterwards to make money they will try and sue me for starting this thread

Oh crapola!!! I forked out all that money for MetClub membership to go into the lottery for a meet and greet pass... if they break up before I get my meet and greet pass I'll be pissed.
I did too! I got the platinum membership with all the REALLY shitty extra stuff so I could get the tickets before they went on sale. Man that MetClub is shit. So very very shit.

id like to see them go out on a 'decent' album . Tension in the band wouldn't suprise me really...clash of ego's.......

if they do break up look out for a fuckload of best of, live and 'rarities' albums!

Goreripper, have bands been sued before for breaking up before a major tour?
I'm sure they have, but I can't think of any examples off hand. But in the case of the Big Day Out, they are the featured headliner of the tour. Many of those who are going would only be going to see them, and if they pull out, the promoters will be forced into refunding millions of dollars in ticket sales. Metallica would be contractually obliged to do the tour, and could be sued if they don't do it. Even if the band has split by then, their management could be sued for breach of contract.

That's true, but it might have the added benefit of making them think twice about entering the music business. That would benefit us all. ;)

Michael JAckson got sued for failing to go through with his millenium show in Sydney didnt he?

OFFICIAL: SOUTH AMERICA CANCELLED
Posted by Inter Sandman @ Thursday, October 23, 2003 08:49 PM EST
Finally, after a week of speculation, wild rumors and confirmation by various agencies in South America, Metallica has made it official. A press release was issued and a post made at the band's official site. Good news for our Japanese friends as they will still get to see the Mighty Met.

Press release:

Metallica regrettably announced today that they are canceling their South American tour, which was set to begin on October 25th. All shows have been cancelled, and no dates have been rescheduled at this time.

The band cited physical injury and mental exhaustion as the reason for the cancellations. Stated Metallica’s James Hetfield, “Between reconnecting recording, and touring St. Anger, we’ve been going non-stop for the last eighteen months, and, simply put, we are fried…both in body and in mind.”

In particular, drummer Lars Ulrich, is being treated for a recurring rotator cuff injury, dating back to their 1991-93 “Black Album” tour, and has been advised to continue to rest his shoulder in order to avoid any further aggravation to the injury.

Said Lars Ulrich of the cancellation, “Nothing, and I mean NOTHING disappoints us more than not being able to follow through on our commitments. It’s been too long since we last toured South America, and I hope that our friends there will understand that for Metallica to cancel these shows, there has to be a pretty heavy reason. In order for us to play “the Metallica way”, we have to be at our absolute best. If not, we are not giving our fans what they expect from us… and what we demand from ourselves.”

Bassist Robert Trujillo added, “We sincerely apologize to the fans, the promoters, and everyone involved in bringing Metallica down to South America, and truly hope to play for you all in the near future.”

Guitarist Kirk Hammett summed up the band’s feelings this way: “This is the first time in our twenty-two year history that Metallica have cancelled a tour, and we are beyond disappointed. Our decision was not an easy one, but it became obvious to all four of us that if we don’t take care of ourselves now, we’ll be no good to anyone in the future.”

Metallica will now begin their “Madly In Anger With You World Tour” in Tokyo, Japan on November 6.

Just as I suspected, nothing more than some personal problems that should be sorted out in no time.

I'm not worried, I know they're too strong right now to split up ;)

And if they're still doing Asian dates, then they'll still do Aussie dates!

How can you get an injury during a 2 month break. They must think after putting out St. Anger people will buy anything! This is as fishy as Bostaphs "sore elbow" that had him leave Slayer about 3 weeks before a major tour...
