MetalSucks on Paul Dianno's retirement

He made a major contribution to the NWOBHM and metal in general...30 years ago. And by most accounts he's been an asshat every year since then. I'm not taking away from what he did back in the day, but no, he won't be missed.
Notice what I said: Late 70's-early 80's. I know that he has been a drop dead drunk, tax cheat, cop beater, tour destroyer and all-around dirtbag since then. But, what I was also saying that you needed to take the good with the bad. I mean, I know he burned Milton, Claus and Glenn, and he deserves brick bats and scorn for that. But, many artists are dirtbags and self-centered people. Do you crap on their contributions as well?

The first 2 Maiden, the first Killers, and the first Battlezone are classics to me. I'm not up on all the specifics of his antics in recent years, I have heard a few bits here and there, but seeing Maiden with DiAnno fronting at the Fox in '80 is something I won't forget. Every aspect of that night was amazing. Yeah I know, it's the past. So what? All of us remember and appreciate amazing metal concerts thru the years. This is no different for me.

See, I never cared for the guy's voice and as you might know, had a horrible experience with him professionally. With that said, I can tell you I won't miss him. Good thing that he's retiring. One less scumbag in our scene.

We're all entitled to our own opinions, however, if you were there in the beginning you may be giving him more credit now. Just sayin'

I am not taking away his credit, though. I don't think you need to "be there" to realize someone did something important. I know that back in the day the guy had a big impact and credit has to be given where it's due. However, when I bust my ass for three months booking his tour, and after it's announced and confirmed he decides to cancel it for no reason, leaving my reputation on the line, I can't help but feel a bittter. It's not a matter of me thinking he's a bad guy. He screwed me. It's that easy.

That's wild. I know it happens more than it should, doesn't make it any easier to deal with, especially on your level. So there was never any reason given, even later?

Yeah, I know...

Well, Paul's manager said to us, and I quote, "Paul is choosing not to do the tour."

On his FB he told fans he was cancelling it for "technical difficulties."

(In my eyes, A blown Amp is a technical difficulty.)

And the sad part is that he is not the only one that have done this to us. Unfortunately the fan boys of those band will never truly understand how it feels (or even sympathize w the amount of time and money we've lost), so it won't do any good mentioning names. I guess at the end of the day we're the stupid ones for letting ppl do this to us again and again, huh Milton? :)

Wow, that's strange. Sorry you had to deal with the hassle. I rarely promote concerts anymore, usually just music collector events, and I may start promoting boxing events at some point... but I definitely know the hassle when the 'participants' don't show. A waste of time, money, and effort.
