Recently my ears are getting better to realise and appreciate the importance of mids.

DISCUSS!

ok ill start. I appreciate that cutting is important specially in cluttered mids, but I have found the opposite is important as well, cut it and you get that horrible smily curve EQ sound.

I think that it's important to control your lower mids.
there's always too much going on in that area. every instrument seems to have a small bit of substance there.
upper mids tend to be too thin. fill this out with vocals & anything extra that you put in other than guitars & drums.

Fuck the mids.

Funnily enough I've always found myself with more mid's than I needed. I hated all the guitar players in bands that had zero midrange and loads of bass and treble. Gain was normally maxed too and it just turned into fizzy boomy shite. So I always kept my mid's pretty high.

These day's I'm dialing them back a bit more, as I always find myself needing to cut them in the mix, better to cut what you have too much of than trying to boost what isn't there though!
