Minneapolis recommendations?

Hey guys and gals, I haven't seen you since PPVII, but I was hoping you could help me with ideas for the weekend of September 3+4...I'm taking a trip with my girlfriend down to Minneapolis (we were going to go hiking in Banff but then we separately severely injured our backs and elected somewhere closer). Any recommendations for what to do that weekend, as far as a cool rock/metal bar, concerts, events? I see the renaissance fair is on this month.

You are correct that the Renaissance Festival (http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/) is going on. It is open Saturday, Sunday, & Monday while you are planning to be there. The Minnesota State Fair is going on at the same time (www.mnstatefair.org/). They average ~100,000+ a day.

There is not much going on for metal shows that weekend. There are other shows going on, but they might not interest you. Weezer, Carrie Underwood, Blondie, & Blindside all have shows in town that weekend.

There is also a theater in Maplewood (St Paul suburb) you could stop by. Watchout for the manager with the Southern accent.

I've never been, but I have many friends who have been to (or worked at) Minn. RenFaire and they tell me it's one of the best in the country. It is definitely one of the best-attended.
