Mixing ballads is fun...

It feels much more natural. You do stuff to make everything sound pleasing whereas with metal you intentionally make elements of the mix sound abrasive, distorted or just clipped to hell and back, trying to fit some imaginary sense of aesthetics influenced by the history of influential or even flavor-of-the-week heavy bands, instead of one that you can derive naturally from the experience of listening to a good instrument in a good room.
