Our bassist brought one of these to practice last night. I've never even seen one before. I forget the exact model, but Google search looks like the MXL 960 or something very similar. Comes with the shock mount thing and all.

Anyone used these before? Better or worse than a standard SM58? Or possibly something to use simultaneously with a 58?

EDIT: After checking their site, it may be one of these 3 mics. Leaning towards the 992 because it had the pad and roll-off switches.

I would save my money for a SM7 or RE20 instead, they're good quality mics that aren't too expensive. MXL are the typical cheap china made LDC that don't hold any value.

Go with something tried and true that you won't regret later.

Ahh ok. Well, we have the mic in our possession so it's not like we are loosing out here. Just wanted any opinions as I'm not sure when I'll get a good chance to try it out.

Really want the SM7B but I've heard a few clips online comparing it to an SM57 and the difference really wasn't very incredible. We have 57's at our disposal along with 58s, Beta 58, etc.
