Mokoma / Janne Saksa

This would probably only apply to the Finnish speaking people on this board - with Mokoma only having Finnish lyrics (although I cant speak Finnish myself).

Anyway - Would anyone happen to know any of the equipment used on Mokoma's album Tämän Maailman Ruhtinaan Hovi?

Im in love with that guitar tone, and generally the mix is pretty decent too. When i saw them live it appeared to be 5150's and also on their DVD they are using them, but their website only links to Mesa (maybe the bassist?). Also if anyone knows of the mic's and preamps used, Id be curious to know.

Also if anyone has the new Pain Confessor CD, Fearrage, whats Saksa's production like on that?

Cheers - and appologies for bringing up a fairly unheard of band, thats unrelated to Andy Sneap!

Mokoma is actually one of the most known bands of recent here ;)

I don't know of any of their equipment except they use 6-string guitars tuned to B and A ;P

I'll try looking around a bit.

Edit:

Alright, here you go:

Marko Annala (vocals) - Audix OM5

Tuomo Saikkonen (guitar, vocals) - ESP (Custom Shop Viper, Viper, Eclipse I, JH-1/Flying V), Mesa/Boogie (Stiletto Trident / 4x12 Recto Standard Slant+Straight), Ibanez (TS808), Boss (DS-1, TU-2, NS-2), Audix (OM3, RAD360)

Janne Hyrkäs (drums) - Tama (Starclassic Performer 2x22' / 14'+16' / 14', Iron Cobra "Rolling Glide"), Meinl (Hi-hat: 14' Byzance Medium / Crash: 18' Byzance Medium & 19' Mb20 / China: 14' Generation X Filter china & 18' Mb20 & 20' Byzance Regular / Ride: 22' Mb20 heavy bell ride), Balbex

Santtu Hämäläinen (bass) - ESP Surveyor II Custom Shop, EBS HD350, EBS 2x10 ja 2x15 -kaapit, EBS ValveDrive, EBS MicroBass II, Boss TU-2

Kuisma Aalto (guitars, vocals) - ESP (Custom V7 "Musti", Custom Eclipse7 "Seiska", V-Standard "Rekku", Eclipse CTM-I VBK "Bling-bling"), Mesa/Boogie (Triple Rectifier / 4x12 Recto Standard Slant+Straight), Audix (OM3, RAD360), Boss (SD-1, DS-1, TU-2, NS-2, BCB-60)

Cheers for finding that man, much appreciated. I had a feeling that the tone wasn't a 5150 - definately has that Mesa Boogie feel.

Was that the gear used for recording? Or just the gear they were using at the time?

Shame it doesn't say what microphones were used for guitars/drums or how the sounds were achieved.

Cheers anyway bro! Any other Finnish stuff you would recommend right now? My cousin recommends me quite a lot of stuff while im out there, but my parents are there right now, they could pick me up a few CD's

Their current gear, and 95% certainly the gear used in the studio too - Mesa stuff costs your butt, left leg and an eye here (Dual Rectifier = 2600 euros, or 3120 $USD), so I don't think they have any extra amps at hand ;)

Oh yeah, and some Finnish bands I recommend (I don't know what you've heard, so I'll list all that I like). In no special order, except the top ones:

Amorphis
Sentenced
Rotten Sound
Waltari
Kingston Wall
Havoc Unit (ex- and Oceans)
Kyyria (r.i.p.)
Sonata Arctica

Hmm, strange. I can't see the list of bands I added to the above message, but when I click edit I can see them :S Even after pressing Ctrl + F5

Ah well, here's the list anyways:

In no special order, except the top ones:

Amorphis
Sentenced
Rotten Sound
Waltari
Kingston Wall
Havoc Unit (ex- and Oceans)
Kyyria (r.i.p.)
Sonata Arctica

Those are my personal favorites. Of course, there's 1600 other hard rock/metal bands here :D

Here you go for a pretty comprehensive listing:

Cheers man. Their latest album definately has a different sound to their previous 2, so that list confuses me again. The newer album has a sludgier feel with the guitars imo. I have some Waltari CD's, certainly crazy stuff, but I feel obliged to listen to it, as it features Roope Latvala. Really curious to hear Pain Confessors new CD, I have Turmoil and really like it. Got some Diablo and Norther albums coming my way soon which is cool.

Back to Mokoma - Their live tone on their DVD (both using 5150) sounds more like Tämän Maailman Ruhtinaan Hovi than their newest album does, so now im thinking maybe the guitars of the album are 5150. hmm
