Hey guys,

I have a bit of a predicament right now.

I want to upgrade my monitoring equipment, but the one, and biggest problem is that I cannot add treatment to the room.
I rent, and am not allowed in any way to alter the rooms in the house.
I'd move, buuuuutttt shit's expensive here.

I've been using headphones to mix since forever, and have moved onto AKG 702's, which are awesome, but still lack in some small areas.

I have listened to a few different speakers, and have liked the Adam A7's quite a bit, however, they were in a decently treated room.

I'm not trying to become a 'PRODUCER AE LOLZ', I just want to write tunes, record them, mix them, and get good results. Subjectively of course.

Now, in YOUR guys' opinions, is it worth it to invest in some A7's, with the full understanding that I cannot utilize any treatment?

It's also a bad room regardless, but I want to know if it's even worth it.

Thanks dudes!

It really depends. If you have decent monitors already you would have better luck making a few bass traps (either wall mounted or made to stand on the floor). If you are using cheap monitors, your better off upgrading them first if the room isn't completely horrible.

hard to tell man. roomtreatment is crucial, but if you have monitors for 40 $ each, than it would be better to get the adams... i dont know, maybe hs50/80 + roomtreatment would do better? should come to the same price like a pair of 7's

Renting IMO shouldn't mean that you can't treat a room. It just means you have to work around it so it's all removable. Check out Ermz photos in the studio pics thread. He has superchunks and pannels all over the room, which can be removed. He also rents.

Start searching and keep saving!

It's not whether or not it's removable, it's the landlord, who makes Stalin look like a pansy.
She would flip if she found such treatment hanging on the wall.....yet pictures and shelves are okay....
Some people are straight ridiculous.

Maybe I'll have a chit chat with her.

Either way, is the general consensus that good monitors + bad room + no treatment = not worth it?

Don't hang them, just make tall stands ;)

Honestly, there isn't enough room.
The room is maybe 8ft x 10ft.
Most of which is taken by a bed.

I did get the okay to do some treatment to the room. I can put a bit on the wall opposite where the monitors would be.

5m x 8m that's bloody massive! That's bigger than most pro control rooms I've been in. Build traps that lean against the wall and superchunks that sit on the floor in the corners.

Did I say meters? I meant feet.

Just measured.

8ft x 10ft.
