Monzter Drumz, teaser video

just a very brief first impression:
there are three different kicks, I do really like one of them
...of that one both hard and medium hits are absolutely usable, they've got a bit different flavor..both sound hard and loud, the "hard" one has a bit more click while the "medium" one has less click but more slap/smack /most sneap fans will probably like that one better).

the second kick isn't bad, just doesn't really fit my taste.

the snares are great (again, two snares) and really offer an alternative to Slate, again, they're offering a completely different flavour than slate snares (which are/feel always fat and short, even the ringy ones...still good of course). these two monster snares offer two sounds that the current Slate line doesn't offer...one is a very tight and short "tock" kinda snare that'll be cool for very fast DM etc, the other one is the snare lots of you have been looking for for quite some time now...it definitely sound very "swedish" and has got that In Flames type of big ring.
definitely not similar to the thick and chunky yet transparent sneap snares, but very good for people who're looking for something different.
I haven't used them in a mix yet, but if you're looking for a vibe similar to In Flames, or perhaps liked the drums I did for my own band (posted in the RMM section) you'll probably like this snare, too.

the Toms have a really good and usable sound, unfortunately there are only three samples per velocity (on the other hand medium and hard hit sound pretty much like the same velocity, so that'd make 6 samples then). also is on some of them (tom14 for example) a rattling noise going on that makes them (for me) unusable :(.

overall I think these samples are good and I do like them, the tones are different from what we hear on this board every day...that's a good start!
I wish there were some more different samples though and I wish the toms wouldn't have this rattling going on.

I've only teested the wav/samples, cause I'm never working with midi nor drumagog, but overall I'd say for that price it's wirth it...be it just for that one snare that I've been looking for for so long now...(MorganC should defintely check that one out)

I bought em to :)

Totally agree what Lasse wrote.. Kicks are tasty really meaty or clicky/punchy so i belive they will do great in mix.

One kick had much sub character with alot of meat in it.
One had a little bit more mid register
And the third had a little bit of both. So i think they will probably blend with each other quite nicely :)

And the snares are a bit different (again as lasse wrote)
One of the snares have alot of wood character, exactly what ive been searching for :) And the other one had a little bit more ring to it.

The toms sounded ok. The 10inch and the 12inch sounded good, then the other ones (14,16inch) sounded a little bit fake. But then again maybe they will blend good with real toms.

And for the price.. I dont think they cost to much. I would happily pay as much for one really good snare sample instead of 10 soso..

Bought them just seconds after seeing that they were available! I fucking LOVE the woody In Flames type one....

YESSSSSSSSSSSS

Just wish there were MOARRRRRR, ahahah.

Can't wait to use 'em on our newest record..

Thanks Plec!

Really stoked that you guys are enjoying the samples!

All feedback is very much appreciated. :worship:

The whole point was to offer something alternative, and I'm personally more a fan of characteristic drum sounds that sound more raw than clean and pretty. Most popular metal production today is the latter, so these samples are not for everyone. But as Lasse says, if you're into that kind of In Flames, Daniel Bergstrand, Dug-Out raw kind of attitude then chances are you will find these samples very useful.

I use the GOG's in my mixes all the time, either as a blend or just straight up as they are. So the EQ and dynamics of them have been tweaked over and over again to offer a very good starting point. I have, use and love the Slate samples also... especially the kicks. But something I've always had trouble with was using them for any type of fast metal. A lot of his kicks have got that synthetic 40-60Hz sine wave thing added to them, which sounds great on more slow paced songs and helps in keeping a rock solid low-end, but when repeated over and over very fast you just get one big constant resonant frequency, and that to me doesn't work very well musically or technically in a mix. So that was also one of the main points, to have kicks that always change around in the low-end giving you a very organic and punchy result especially for faster styles.
