My bad....on first glance thought I saw the x pattern logo that the stileto has....

Same here man, haha. The only reason it stuck out to me was because I am looking at getting a Deuce head myself, so I noticed the black grill where the Mesa logo is. Otherwise I would've said Stiletto too.

James has had a Stiletto in his rig on occasion for a while now along with his two channel Triple Rec. It's been in a ton of studio shots. Kirk has used one a bit too.

Having heard the Stiletto/Recto combination myself many times (owning a Stiletto and all...) I can verify it's pretty much a recipe for awesome tone if they're dialed in at all decently.

Pretty cool clip of the recording studio video there.. i like what i hear, i just hope they do what they want to do instead of trying to please their fans and the rest of the world.

As long as Bob Cock ain't in the mix....

I just hope they don't go way outta their way to do something "different" and end up with some bullshit.
I REALLY want this to not suck.

how about this video.

You know it makes me nostalgic; I remember the days that I used to write badly ripped-off and poorly played metallica solos for my first band. Looks like Kirk has started doing the same...

It's starts off all Load-era "I've forgotton how to play lead guitar so I'll do simply phrased minor pentatonic and double stops", followed by master of puppets... if you slowed it down 30bpm. And then there's some random tremelo picked notes that don't seem to be in key whatsoever.

He was one of the main reasons I picked up the guitar :(

I wonder why everyone in this forum keeps writing about metallica when you seem to fucking hate them.
Do you like to be pissed of at stuff? Or whats the gig here?
Well, I for one am optimistic about this record, and I think its going to be pretty damn good.
Oh, and I think Load was a good record too, although I admit its not too much "Metallica".

Yeah, because none of us have ever pulled a shit solo out of thing air? Seriously, that video is obviously just a jam, probably a few months old now. I bet the solo on the album will be sweet.

Can't recall saying I hate them - I COLLECT metallica stuff!
Other than St anger I've enjoyed everything they've done, INCLUDING a fair chunk of Re-load. Exodus, Testament and Megadeth can churn out really good albums that stand proudly by their classic material - but metallica don't really seem to know what they want to achieve musically these days.

I want Death Magnetic to be the greatest thing ever, but none of the mission metallica videos are really filling me with hope...

I'm sure everyone has, but not then put it up for public consumption...
Surely the whole point of mission:metallica is to get fans such as myself optimistic and excited about the new album!? Granted, not every metallica fan is all about guitar solos, but presumably if Metallica are putting that video on the net they are happy with it's content...

Also, regarding kirk's ability these days - Have you heard any of the B-sides of the St Anger singles? Take the blackened live version for example: He misses out half the solo, and butchers the other half.

Although never the most technical shredder, from '...lightning' to the black album he wrote some great, memorable solos. I just get the impression that he doesn't ever play/practise the guitar anymore. Which is cool, it's his life and he doesn't owe anyone anything. But then it's not advisable to start trying to play 24 bar "shred" solos just because trivium have made it fashionable again...

To be honest, the main reason those bands still turn out quality shit, is because they're not tainting with the big ass wage syndrome that Metallica have encountered. They're all somewhat still fighting, and still need to make money. Where as Metallica could have called it quits a while back. I too want this new album to rock, but I'm not passing comment until I get something that's actually worth passing comment on (something longer than few clips here and there).

Wow, Kirk sounds like a 15 year old kid trying to sound like Kirk. That's really unfortunate, but honestly, I doubt he really likes playing guitar that much anymore. Probably has stuff he'd rather do. I don't hold it against him.

I don't know if you guys ever noticed, but Kirk has never been a very good player. He has always reused licks, played sloppy, abused double stops etc. I don't know if it's the classic "it is new, so it must be worse than the old" syndrome or what. But that solo was just as good most things on Kill, AJFA etc

I don't care though, as long as it sounds decent. And I'm psyched about the new album!
