I recently picked up the Smell of Rain and I love it. I never listened to this type of music before and I only got it based on a recomendation. Can anyone suggest anything similar that I might like?

Great cd, I'm probably going to get ripped for this by you guys but I think some VNV Nation sounds like songs on this cd.
i hated it when i first got it. a guy i used to work with kept telling me it's a great album so i listened to it some more. now i love it.

A lot of the 80s Nu-Wave stuff probably sounds similar and I think Ohgr and various other more synth pop oriented acts are what you're looking for.

The Smell of Rain was not NEARLY as good as VNV Nation. VNV Nation is still some of the most powerful music that I have ever heard. They may not have been complex, but they were extremely moving. Mortiis is just a quickly boring novelty act.
