I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on which album(s) are the hardest to get into yet most rewarding, with reasons too :D

I'd say, although not my favortie, MORNINGRISE took the longest to get into, but by that fatefull listen the beauty of it hit me like that. And everytime since then i notice something that adds to the beauty.

Easiest to get into was STILL LIFE which is still my favorite, story gets me everytime:'(

MAYH and Prometheus, definately. Difficult albums, but there's so much there. BWP also. Even though it's easy to get into, there's a lot going on at once, and since the production's kind of muddy, you keep hearing things you didn't notice before for ages.

I'd say most rewarding is still life - the cycle of emotions you go through listening to that album just above leaves you able to breathe after.

I'm still getting into BWP at the moment, although I haven't had it for that long. Still Life was the easiest for me to get into...

MAYH definately
I really got prometheus after only the second listen. its on my winamp nonstop :)

The sound is far better on cd especially for this album :)

Im starting to think that the album which is the most rewarding for someone has something to do with the order that they listen to each CD, at least in terms of Opeth. The first Opeth CD that someone listens to would be easier to get into because they have no preconceived ideas of what the band is going to sound like, whereas when they are on their 5th or 6th album, that person would be less accepting to a major difference in the band's sound. Does anybody agree?

As for me, the most rewarding album is Morningrise, not because it took longer to get into, but because I get something different out of it with every listen. Does something have to be hard to get into to be rewarding?

(My first post!)

Definitely. Deliverance was actually my first Opeth album, so I guess I kinda got used to the newer sound. Morningrise was without a doubt the hardest to get into.

I think just about every album that takes time to get into is as rewarding as the next though. It`s a nice thought knowing you put so much time in getting used to a song or album that you can hear something completely different from those who didn`t bother.

any album from king crimson, especially larks tongues in aspic and islands. they arent for everyone, but rather for the open minded people. that means you (yes, you reading this right now at your computer) probably won't like it. thats fine, king crimson doesnt make music for people like you (yes, you reading this right now at your computer).
