Hey guys, im in need of the extra mic pre's for a reasonable price. And these are the two options currently. Theres not much in price difference between the FS8 and Motu 8Pre, only a few quid. Anywhoo, my current rig currently consists of a MOTU 828MKII so ive got the 10 inputs (but only 2 are the mic pres).
Im currently drawn to the MOTU 8Pre at the moment, mainly due to the fact i already have moto gear and i can use the firewire to daisy chain my current rig. It also seems more versitile in that each input has its own phantom power and pad, unlike the FS8 which you have to have sets of 4 running the phantom power. However, the main interest is the actaul mic pre's, how'd they compare in dynamic and frequency response? would there be a noticable difference?
