the wah can be used as a treble boost for the solos. Zakk wylde pushes his wah down for the treble boost during his solos to make it stand out over the rhythm playing and the dimebag wah has a volume boost on the side which could also be used.
With Black Label Society Zakks rhythm players guitar is louder than Zakks is so when it comes to a solo he uses the wah as a boost to able to hear the solo clearly over the rhythm.

^yeah the 'evil twin' does get a little carried away, but im thinking alexi uses the wah the same way zakk does, as a booster on his solos, especially when him and the keyboards are going at the same time.

Well if you ask me , I would use a volume pedal , or have an EMG Afterburner (up to 20dB more gain ) installed on my guitar.
