Musical favorites and diversity.

i don't consider myself a prog snob. although i love a good few prog bands, i don't think that wankery is the key to good music. i just get bored sometimes with repetition and musical norms. i guess it's kind of a musical A.D.D.?

i don't dislike any genre of music. i just like some more than others. and i believ some have more respectable artists in them than others.

and you don't find immortal cheesy?

come on now... cheesyness isn't confined to powermetal. it's everywhere. i like celtic folk metal and i know alot of people think that's cheesy..... rhapsody, hammerfall, stratovarious...too cheesy for me. that doesn't mean i can't ejoy song or two of theirs once a week or so. sometimes cheesy can be fun.

P.S. Calamitus... Sav and Megadeth ftw...

I know, I just hate it when musicians have a competent grasp of theory and technique, it just ruins the music.

agreed. it's not an assault on your taste, but why do you hate prog so much? there arealot of prog musicians who really do put alot of musical talent in their writing.

Conversely, being a talented musician does not mean you are a good song writer. This is obvious if you listen to let's say, anything Yngwie has put out in the last decade really. Technicality and musicianship does not strip soul and emotion from music, songwriters simply fail to interject it.

Terms that should be banned from the human language:

"cheese" (pertaining to anything other than the delicious byproduct of milk)
"wank"

feel free to contribute.

Agreed but it's next to never that technical music is incorporated with strong songwriting.

Ohh man, I could go to town with this one. I'll show some restraint though, you get an A for effort.

Edit:  that wasn't for you neal, but I agree with the list. From now on all music will simply be referred to as BBS and ABS, before and after Black Sabbath.
