I've asked before, but now I've had time to play the amp and I can describe the problem better.
The amp in question is a peavey ultra plus. It sounds like its under a thick blanket. Sometimes if I give it a whack it suddenly sounds louder, clearer, and more defined, but it doesn't stay like that.
All of the tubes appear to be good. I replaced the power tubes with known good tubes. The preamp tubes all appear fine and there is no noise when tapping on them.
I've also tried many different cables with the same result.
I dont have hands on experience with tube amps, but I have a general understanding of circuits.
Any help/suggestions will be extremely appreciated.
