My crappy town on ACA

Home Hill/Ayr - which makes up the Burdekin shire. 100km south of Townsville

it was a story on the downturn in the Sugar Industry. All these freakin' farmers crying poor but they still drive around in brand new HSV's and have SEVERAL houses around the state. Fuck the farmers.

The sugar farmers have a right to be spewing IMO. They might still have money coming out their arse, but they've also just had Johnny Howard's phallus rammed up them with his FTA with the US. The sugar industry is one of this country's biggest, but Howard left it right out of the bargain so he could appease the sugar growers in GW's cousin's home state of Florida. Cunt.

Howard has lost the vote of every fisherman and hiker in the country as well. Liberal's plan to close all national parks for recreational use, and not fund the restocking of fresh water fish in the snowy mountains is fucking stupid.

The fishing industry in the snowies is a 25 million dollar a year industry, and not to mention the fact, if he closes all national parks, there will also be no ski resorts.

Liberals are fucked.

I agree Brian, leaving them out is fucking stupid.

But on the other side, even with the downtown of the sugar industry in the last 10 - 15 years, sugar cane farmers are among the most well-off people in the agricultural industry. They cry poor all the time even though they have several assetts, buy brand new cars (up to 50,000) for their kids when they get their licences and so much more.

One of the families featured on A Current Affair, The Roncato's are one of biggest sugar cane farmers in the area and one of the most well off. It shit me when he said he 'prays to god' that something is going to change and doesn't know how they are going to get through. How can they say such things when they just bought 2 brand new Toyota Landcruisers (around $50,000) - trust me you get to know these things living in a small town.

I have to deal with these fuckers everyday and not one of them doesn't winge.

It's easy for all you down there to feel sorry for them, but you don't know the half of it. That story on ACA outraged the majority of people in this area. It's all fucking bullshit.

Hey dude I'm sure it is. No one can cry about not making ends meet when they're driving around in brand new 4WDs. I make about $47K a year and Xena and I are just scraping by at the moment. Let 'em swap lives with me for a week and give 'em something to whinge about.

Actually I just thought of something else. They'd be able to claim those cars (and every cent they spend on running costs) as tax write-offs. When you can claim a $50,000 automobile as a tax write-off, you have no reason to complain about shit.

Me too. Granted, now-a-days I usually earn more than that on an hourly rate, but this year (as in, since last April) I've only had paid work for 6 months. And it's by choice, I guess, so I shouldnt whine too much.

You're just as bad as them, Gore, swanning about town in your fancy new T-Shirt business complaining about how tough you've got it. Won't someone think of the IT people and the temps?

Well, once it starts making us some money, maybe I won't be whinging. At the moment we've had the business and week and haven't sold squat. We could only buy it because I got back a HECS over-payment. I'm not crying poor-mouth because what I get paid isn't too bad, but after tax, car repayments, Child Support, rent, gas and electricity bills, phone bill, insurance, credit card payments, car costs and groceries, there isn't a great deal left. I'm not about to go crying to ACA and whinge about how hard my life is though, because it's not.
