...Here's the story. A few weeks ago, I went to my buddy Mike's house just to hang out and dick around. Well, he broke out that fre King Diamond Puppet master DVD. Y'know, just enjoying the cool, harmless horror story. Then his dad walks in..."WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!!?? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT THIS IS! THIS IS CRAP! GARGBAGE! GIMME THE THE DVD. I'M GONNA SHOW THIS TO YOUR MOM, SEE WHAT SHE THINKS OF IT, AND WE'LL TELL YOU WHAT THIS IS!"Then, he gets closer to Mike, right in his face, looking him right in the eye, and says one of the funniest things i have ever heard... "ARE YOU IN A SATANIC CULT!!??" I was there on the couch, choking, trying to hold back massive laughter. Now, i haven't heard much about that situation until Monday.
Now, before i get into that, lemme give you info on Mike's parents. His mom...the worst one of the two. She is one psycho bitch. She is HARDCORE religious, she is paranoid when it comes to Mike, she is way overprotective of him, prefers to run his life for him, and just by the way she speaks to him and treats him, she doesn't trust him or his judgement. You can just tell. She is also a major snoop. I mean, she has found shit out about other people, particularly about Mike's other firneds that ot even MIKE knows!!! I can't understand how she does it!!! She also has a tendancy to fabricate lies to make people seem worse and make her look innocent. She does it all the time.
And his dad is a real hardass. Doesn't trust Mike for shit. Doesn't let him do shit, yells at him for the littlest things, and just doesn't seem to like him. Maybe it's because Mike wasn't meant to be, and his dad didn't want another one, if you get my drift.
Anyhoo, back to the story. Monday, he calls me, with this mad tone in his voice, "Dude!! My mom just threw away ALL my King Diamond CDs, and says you are to blame! " Basically, she thinks i'm a satanist. She thinks I influenced Mike to get those, to stain his mind, "satanize" him, as it were. And Mike is never to see me again, and if his is caught with me, there will be HELL to pay. Their words.

So, yeh, i have the parents of one of my best friends, parents who used to love me, thinking i'm SATANIC! Oh, and the reason why they think i'm to balme? My long hair and the fact that i wear black rock t-shirts. I'm serious, that's their reasoning. Just thought i'd share this with you guys, have a good laugh or two.

I'm glad that you can laugh at it, because I cannot. That type of square-retrograd mentality is what is having this planet bathed in blood. If I have my way I will take all extremist religious wackos (Jewish, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Animists, Satanists, etc.), send them to a remote island in the Pacific...and test a Polaris ICBM with multiple 500 megatons warheads on the place, just to see if imbeciles are radiation proof.

I can laugh at it, because it's so rediculous and so outlandish, it strikes me as funny. But at the same time, it IS sad, it IS wrong, it IS square minded and and an amazingly stubborn way of thinking. While I laugh about it, i'm also quite pissed. VERY pissed as a matter of fact, how they can just jump to conclusions and balme me without any real valid reason to do so, and without knowing what King Diamond is really about. A HORROR STORY!? OOOH!!! So, i guess John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Stephen King and fucking R.L. Stine are satanic ,too huh? They do make horror movies or write horror novels, they gotta be, right????

Several eons ago when my father (R.I.P) travelled to Miami, he brought me some albums (vinyls at the time) I wanted: Rainbow, Malmsteen and Saxon. When he came back home and gave the records, he ask me "is true that is satanic music?" I look at him seriously and told him "Dad who tell you such idiocy?" He explained to me it was the salesperson in wherever he got them. I mock my father for believing in such stupidity and he never teased or questioned me again. Nor my mother ever had, well excep once I was hearing Rush 'Cygnus X-1' and in the end when Geddy is screaming, she told me "No wonder you are so violent with the music you hear!" I explained to her that she will scream exactly the same if she will be sucked by a black hole.

I have been collecting metal records, videos, posters and t-shirts for over 20 years. Not a single problem in all these years, not even when I went to proctor my students in the university wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt with the devil on the back ('82 world tour)...and I was the professor

I recall my "pop" took a trip to see my grandparents once & he asked if I was looking for anything? I gave him a list of things I wanted. He comes back with this KD cassette for "Them" and some other buttrock stuff that was on the list. I guess he had gotten some crazy looks when he went into the shop with this list of Metal/Rock/Thrash music. Here was this 38 year old, hispanic, clean cut male holding this list. That must have been a sight. KD is a practicing Satanist, I don't consider myself a "Satanist" for listening to his music. In fact, I find him harmless, I think an "imitator" like Manson has single handedly damaged all forms of rock music in the last decade...
Anyway, the point?
If you are raising your kids with a strong value system they will
choose the right path. They might stray at times, but if you have
the ability to communicate they will come to you with any issues.
Let me sum up the typical American family, from adolescence to pre-teens
you are always talking then you'tre told to shut up. By the teens to early adulthood you always asked to talk....
Think about it(specially if you got a kid or two).

ANYHOO, What you said is very true, my friend. I come to my parents for everything(just about...). When i need help, consoling, or just that occasional parental love(it sounds wussy, but i don't give a shit!!!!), whatever, man. I love my parents. I respect them, and they in turn respect me. They raised me with a lineant, yet firm way. My mom being lineant, my dad being firm, but the two together really works. Sure, my family isn't all roses and happy things, there have been lots of hardships in the past years, believe you me.I'm a good kid with his head on straight, at least i like to think so. And i find it personally insulting when someone questions it, or questions what i stand for, or whatever, when they have no fucking clue who i am!!!
And yeh, Mike is still cool with me. And he's still one of my best buds. He calls me and hangs out whenever his parents are gone. Sure, it's wrong, but it's the only way i can see my pal!

I think it is ashamed that people have to grow up in environments such as that. Unfortunately that is life and there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about it. At least your friend is nearing the end of his life under his parents' roof. I do hope he isn't in such a hurry that he decides to forego any kind of secondary eduction though.

This is such a "i've been there..." type of story. I think we've all either experienced this through our parents or even a friends. I remember my mom freaking out (my mom and dad always let me listen to whatever and supported my metal habit as a child...) over the SOD SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE album, not because it was satanic, but because it had songs like Pre Menstrual Princess Blues and Pussywhipped! Sexual references! haha My dad was funny that way, he would let me listen to whatever, take me to rent horror movies, buy me magazines, basically anything unless it had the dreaded NUDITY! hahaha We laugh about that today. Texas Chainsaw was ok, because there were no breasts anywhere! Crazy....
But here's a dillimma I face today...as an adult. I am a Christian. I would NEVER tell anyone else how to live their life or who to pray to...It's simply the way I live and is all about a RELATIONSHIP rather than RELIGION...anyways, I am a huge King Diamond/Mercyful Fate fan since the Swine turned me on to them (and with the help of Metallica) and sometimes I wonder if I'm selling myself out, getting into them. I have ALWAYS loved metal and ALWAYS will, but my line of logic goes like this...pentagrams...ok...scary, but questionable...Shout at the Devil had it...OK! Upside down crosses...I usually stay the hell away from it. hahaha I know this sounds crazy but I feel a difference between metal and blatantly satanic stuff. But I love the King! It boils down to this....I can listen to the music and not be influenced by it...just jamming on it. Ya know? It's no worse than watching a horror movie or a PORNO for that matter...everyone's gonna do it in their lifetime...how you let it influence you is what matters. I don't think anyone is going to hell based on what music they've listened to in their lifetime...or what movies...it's all about whether or not you've "settled your account" with the creator! that's it!

You know my friend, i don't follow any religion whatsoever. I believe in a higher power, i believe in some sort of afterlife, dunno if it's "Heaven", but i do believe some sort of afterlife exists somewhere. But there was a time (about 3 or so years ago) i considered myself a Christian, and at that time I went throught that same struggle. Hell, even now being skeptical of religions and their rules and bounderies and their stories of origin, i still stay away from the Satanic stuff, and stay leery of anything that might be. Why? Because I don't want to affiliate myself with such a dumb, hypocritical, and pointless "religion" such as satanism. It IS a tough situation Teddy boy, but it's OK. I believe the lyrical themes can't influence you, unless you LET THEM. And I know you won't, so worry not. Enjoy your music.

It is a shame. The parents think they're doing a good thing treating him like this, but I KNOW by listening to him. It isn't. He hates them. Why? Because of how he's treated and their lack of faith and respect. He is in a hurry to leave, but he is going to do secondary school. I'm making sure of that.

My mom listens to that Rockabilly, 60's Motown and Big Band stuff, but she has an appreciation for metal. I show her songs, ask her what she thinks of them, and also to show her it's not all "HAIL SATAN!" stuff.
