This is my analysis of NEVERMORE'S self titled release on Century Media. I did this while "under the influence" and my explanations are what the songs mean to me, along with some of my favorite lyrics. Let me know what you think.
*WHAT TOMORROW KNOWS- Basically, that the future is uncertain. I like the lines "fate is cruel when dreams like candles fade", "faded pictures of what might have been". This could also mean to not reflect on the past (what might have been), even though we can't escape it, and that some people "fools" will" try to forget from where they came." However, there is a positive note in the line"find hope from the voice within."
*C.B.F.-About the dangers of drug "abuse". Example-"one more hit could kill, fullfill the death wish in you". Also, about the thought processes of someone heavily using drugs as refered to in "Blank their state of mind" and "numb the pain". However, if a person chooses to "live this Way" if they "swallow the fire/breath in the black," you can "count the days till (they're) gone, and be unsympathetic and "shed no tears" when they're gone for the way they chose to live.
*SANITY ASSASSIN-A person who has "no dreams of his own" ..and has an "empty soul". Therefore, this person "steals minds and innocent visions" of the weak. He is the "thief of imagination," "stealer of dreams,"and "takes another's pride" and "what he cannot live". But, "The will of strong mind is never deceived" by this person. So, if a person has a strong mind and isn't afraid to "dream outside the lines/and paint pictures within your mind" they won't fall pray to a "trick of mind or the devil's whim." DREAMS ARE IMMORTAL.
*GARDEN OF GREY-About a sexual encounter while under the influence of an hallucinogenic, ecstasy or L.S.D.. Examples-"feel flesh enrapture me", "feel the shiver of lust grow deeper," "lay your hands on me gently". Also, a possible drug reference, "love you in the garden of grey/where we can stop the time and drink the ecstacy." The "politics of ecstasy" is first mentioned here."
*SEA OF POSSIBILITIES-Basically, be open minded and willing to accept any kind of notion, theory, or possible way of thinking. Examples- "pouring logic and opinion in me," "Don't mean to alarm you/but the future is not written in stone". I also like this line "from the dust of adam's ribs she hides/the muse in my tragic comedy of lies.
*THE HURTING WORDS-About problems of communicating in a relationship when mean and hurtful things are said. The frustration of having someone try and understand how you feel. Examples-"makes no difference in what you say/when words come out wrong anyway," "said too many words to catch them all in time/the hurting words took away her shine," "too many things you and I can't say.
*TIMOTHY LEARY-pretty self explanatory, about the thoughts and beliefs of L.S.D. guru Timothy Leary. Many L.S.D. references-"chemicals to improve the view", "windowpane", "a psychadelic kiss". Timothy Leary wanted people to "see things in a different way" and noted that some people "kill what you don't understand". Timothy Leary where are you now.
*GODMONEY-About crooked T. V. evangelist and highly religious people. Examples-"send your money to jesus christ/ mail order your eternal life. These crooked people feed off the weak by using "mind control" and they are "bastard saints of the color green". Remember, God needs money too.
