not really much interesting to say about the technical details here.
bit of a weird sounding mix and definately a weird guitar tone. big 1.5khz boost to get this big sorta quacky honky on the guitars, but its the only way i could be satisfied with them.
but yeah, im pretty happy with this.
props to ryan for the reamps

and heres a snapshot of bass and vocal edits just for giggles.:

enjoy!

At first, I thought the drums were too fatiguing (spelling?) and generally loud but after about 30 seconds, I think it all started melting together. I definately like the mix as a whole, it feels kinda unique or atleast has some character to it instead of being this clinical done-to-death type of deathcore mix. I'm getting absurdly sick of deathcore btw but I'll leave that out of this post... ^^

I didn't think the guitars are honky at all, I think it's good! They've got a nice bite. I often boost around 1.5k-2k when I tweak guitar tones because there is usually a really nice "attitude" going on there so I think you did a good thing boosting there.

So all in all, I kinda like it, even though it's DEFINATELY not something I listen to! If this had that typical clinical sounding deathcore mix, I would shat on it after 10 seconds and stopped playing the file. Good job for walking your own path in mixing Gareth, thumbs up for that =)

Tracked by me. I like this mix but the guitars seem a little overgained and the vocals seem a little too quiet.

yeah theyre really gainy, theres very little attack on the guitars, either down to the players or me being the suck at editing.
how much would you say to bump the vocals up by? a decibel or 2?

its uncommon at least for me. i usually have 4 on the go all doing different shit.

If the guitars weren´t so over gained the mix would be much better. The attack of the guitars is too annoying. The palm mute sections dont sound too well. But the mix is cool. You can raise the vocals a bit as somebody already said.

Kick is a bunch of blended samples plus the Kick Out track from S2.0. Snare is S2.0. Snare also has Ryans orange county snare blended in (no processing on it though.) Toms and OH are real.

Made a rar of screenshots of ALL the snare processing, I'd post it all here, but theres a LOT of it.
Numbered the pictures in the order in which I'd approach doing all of this shit.
Left the side of the screen visible so you can see which order my chain is. And numbered the plugins in one picture because I figured there may have been some confusion over the order.

And yes, before anyone pipes up, that is waves, no i did not pay for it, yes i am getting rid of it soon, do not turn this topic into a LOL UR TEH PIRATE witchhunt. Now that I'm actually getting paid for some work I can actually start the shit I use.

So yeah, that's all my bases covered. Here's the rar!

And here's info on the kick. Includes a file describing all the details for aptrigga, all the samples used, blah blah. ALSO includes a sample of the kick minus the Kick Out track. That's muted because it's s2.0. The rest of the kick is all just blended samples and no S2.0 so fair use is assumed. If Lasse, Nate, The Broodwich or Morgan have any problem with this being posted then let me know and I'll remove it, but until then, because they're free samples, I've assumed it's okay to post it.

:OMG:

I normally have one... lol. I'm going to experiment.

Check my post history for posts in one of MF_Kitten's topics and my posts in my Billie Jean cover mix topic. Hugely detailed descriptions of my bass processing in both topics.

is the snare replaced? what is your chain for it.. i quite like the sound of the drums man..

Converted the kick and snare to midi with ktdrumtrigga (my faaaavourite thing ever nowadays <3) quantised them to death, set the velocity to 125 for all the snare hits.
Toms and OH's are real like I outlined previously.

Yo dude, not bad, I dig it overall - a couple of minor quips though, I'm not too sure about the 1.5k boost, it sounds pretty much exactly like what I would think the excessive frequency was even if you hadn't mentioned you boosted it. Also, the kick is a tad boomy/rumbly, so you might wanna tame around the 100 region (ballpark estimate). Oh, and the snare pops well, but again, I hear just a bit more hiss/fiss on the tail that I guess is from the super-smashed room mic; I'm just personally not too crazy about it. Cymbals work well though, and I like the compression, overall a groovin' mix!

I don't think the 1.5k boost is excessive. I actually think it fits the mix well. The guitar tones remind of a Zeuss mix, as do the the kick and the snare. I definitely like it. :)

Sounds pretty good bro.
I do question how that guitar tone will stand up in the long term however.
Even on the first listen, that 1.5K boost was kinda questionable, but a few more listens and that 1.5K boost was just really annoying to be totally honest and only seems to be making the effect of the guitars being over gained even more pronounced.
You've already got a few people talking about the attack of the guitars being annoying, the guitar tone being fatiguing etc, so I know I'm not the only one that really thinks it can be improved.
You do talk about getting stuff sounding natural and I think boosting the guitars as much as you did is at odds with that philosophy, since you're only going to be getting further away from the source tone.

Well the band don't like the mix. Yay for me. I get paid for this track and I won't be doing the other.

So fuck it, who even cares now eh? haha.
