Man, it sucks to be sick, especially when I'm trying like hell to enjoy some time off. Got hit with a raging cold out-of-the-blue. Bottom line...I've been down!
Anyway, in an effort to keep myself entertained (and get myself off the couch every hour or so), I started going through my collection on a journey from A-Z, one band and one disc per letter. It's been about the only thing keeping me entertained and occupied. I thought I would share my journey with you, purely for your (possible) amusement and (possible) discussion on some of the picks.
My intent was to grab stuff that I hadn't heard in a while, intentionally foregoing my usually reached-for faves. Stuff tends to get buried once it gets "filed" in my cabinets, so I was specifically seeking:
1) -- Underappreciated gems
2) -- Recent releases that never really got absorbed
3) -- Classic stuff that I hadn't trod out in a while
I made an effort to go thru each letter disc-by-disc before each pic. It amazes me what I re-discover at times. I'm sure many of you are the same when it comes to re-discovering certain tunes, which is the whole reason why I share this list:
A -- The Inhabitants Of My Diary by Abydos
B -- Crime Of Love by Bitter Suite (George Cristin and Don Wilk on some of the vox)
C -- Ashes To Ashes by Candlemass
D -- Praises To The War Machine by Warrel Dane
E -- The Raven Ride by Empire (love Tony Martin)
F -- The Cold by Flotsam And Jetsam
G -- 1 by Gamma
H -- Defying The Rules by Hibria
I -- Feast For The Hated by Imagika
J -- Nostradamus by Judas Priest
K -- Nostradamus by Nikolo Kotzev (Priest thought they were so original and ground-breaking in their release...ha!)
L -- Abyss - Lionsheart (Steve Grimmett anyone?)
M -- Chocolate Box by Mogg/Way
N -- Enemies Of Reality by Nevermore (original Kelly Gray-produced release...still sounds like shit)
O -- Carnival Of Lies by Obsession
P -- Heavenly Ecstasy by Pagan's Mind
As of today, I'm feeling much better and just dicking around the house, getting ready for the holidays, so I began continuing my journey this morning with the Ns. I'll keep rocking until I hit Z, then maybe I'll bust out the Christmas Metal.
It's been a cool way to re-discover my collection...
Commentary encouraged...will finish the alphabet later...
Rock on!
