But even though yes, my rent has only gone up $80 total in 3 years, and my wages have nearly doubled since then so it places no real monetary burden upon my person, it still sorta sucks.

I'm on a month to month lease now, my initial was only for a year. I never thought I would be at an apartment so long, but housing prices don't do anything but skyrocket. I'm going to start looking again though, if I can find something for $300k in a decent neighborhood, I'll do it. Odds of that < 0.

Mortgages shouldn't go up if you have a fixed interest rate I thought. Property taxes are a different story I guess.

oddly enough this is still dirt cheap in the area I live.
been looking at other places also for the last month. seen 5-6 apartments already closer to Manhattan, a little more rent but much bigger ... but so far none of them felt like home.
