my songs sound rubbish in itunes

you are correct sir. my error. i shall flagellate myself while fasting for one week... standing on my head upon the back of a camel.... deep in the Saudi desert... naked.
fellate will be fine.

so howzabout this.... don't make silly, pointless posts
you said it.

semantics.... the Play/Pause button is the Start/Stop button... it doesn't have any text there so what's the difference?
it's nothing to do with semantics. there is no stop button. it's something that's annoying and silly about itunes. a valid point.

I have thought about this countless times. Would really be a nice feature instead of all the stupid new gui shit etc.
"stupid new gui shit"... lol... yeah, in fact, i'm all for going back to MS-DOS command-line interface... all these new-fangledy "graaaaphics" are just too fancy for my ancient brain and Atari computers... in my day we used to have to play Pong, cuz it was the ooooonly veeeedio game, and if ye missed a shot it took fiiiive hours to load up the game again, and internet porn was all ascii boobies [ ( 0 Y 0 ) ] and it took a WEEK to print out on our dot-matrix printers.. and "GUI" meant you accidentally "tossed one" on yer gigantic beige keyboard... and the only Apples we had actually did get worms in them, but we ate 'em anyway... AND THAT'S THE WAY IT WAS AND WE LIKED IT!!!!

you've been suckin' on yer Hotwheels™ again :p. you press the space bar, it plays... you press it again, it stops.... just like, oh i don't know.... eeeeeevery other audio program in the world, from Winamp to Pro Tools HD. :u-huh:

no, but you are making inaccurate/confusing statements. first of all, the psycho-acoustic garbage in all player apps suck and make the music sound worse.... all of them.. not just iTunes.. there is nothing intrinsically worse about iTunes' version of it, in fact it's better than most, certainly better than the shit in WMP, but the fact remains that all that shit sucks So, though you seem to infer it in your posts, iTunes is not somehow "hurting" people's opinion of music.... all the other apps have the same crap in them. Thus my statements regarding simply turning them off.. it's easy and you have to do it with pretty much all players. So, I'm not arguing with you... you made some confusing and/or incorrect statements/assumptions... i clarified and/or corrected them.... that's a discussion.

:kickass:

hmm, OK.

i challenge yer asses to name one thing that "sucks" about iTunes that i can't point out that it's just you being a window-licker.

it's on, bitches. :muahaha:

It slows down XP's boot time. :P It installs a .dll file that causes the slowdown & you can't unload, even if you uninstall iTunes.

Personally, I prefer Anapod Explorer. It allows two-way transfers, & doesn't erase your entire iPod if it is "out of sync" like, ahem, iTunes does. I learned that one the hard way. A couple of versions later, I noticed they put a warning button up for exactly that reason.

If iTunes works for you, fantastic! At least it works for someone. I can't stand it, though.

i plug in my iPod all the time when it's "out of sync" and it never has erased a single track.... once again this can be chalked up to not reading the instructions and the on-screen options... you simply choose the "manage your library manually" option.... it's a single check box... and iTunes will never again try to "sync" your iPod.

my PC starts up the same now as it did before i installed iTunes.... slowly, wahahahaha

you gotta come stronger than that Glen... tsk tsk... lol

and hey, what's up with the session?

hahaha.... oh man, i'm bustin' a gut over here.... i'm not sure what's more genius about your last few posts.... that you think you have a point (as if a graphic of a black square would make the app any more stopped than it already was in the "pause" position), or that you manage to make it so oblique as to whether or not you're just having a laugh with some clever trolling.

tell you what, get yourself a black crayon, then open iTunes... now fill in the space between the dashes of the "pause" symbol in the transport interface... BAM!.... now iTunes has a stop button.... you'll have to wipe it off when you need to make it play.... s'ok though.. you can draw it back when you wanna stop again. ;)

There's something to be said for reading manuals and on-screen help whenever a question arises in any program... even something as dumb as this if it's something you're really willing to risk looking foolish over... and i count myself in that assessment as much as i count you... yet, i wonder what the Prophet/Poet/Social Critic Bill Hicks would say about it.....

^ it really is...

...but still it was a dumb "debate"... and we're both dumber for it...

.. but fuck it, i won,

Ive got no problem with I tunes at all. It does everything I want it to. Figure out how to use it and Im sure you will agree. Its really not that difficult

You realise everything you have mentioned you would have sorted if you had gone through the preferences just the once, also it DOES ask if you want to alter the file associations on install, looks like another windows install it and realise you haven't read it afterwards person...:goggly:

You do realize that I won't feel compelled to dig through options when I already have something that works the way I want it to. I just need a player, not a fucking music organizing jukebox that wants to scour my computer for every fragment of audio. In walks iTunes--fucker is launching by itself and looks like it's open after I just closed it. I use so many programs that I will never read the manual for all of them. Seriously a music playing app should be intuitive and not even need a manual. Although I did have to read it to get a CD burned since it was not very obvious to me. The first disc I burned turned out to be mp3s when I was simply trying to burn my wav files. BTW, the version I installed (many moons ago) certainly did NOT ask if I wanted to change file extensions. Maybe the newest version is better. That's the thing with programs, if they leave a bad first impression, even when they improve, most people will not use it again if it has left a bad taste in their mouth. My biggest gripe is the way it grabs hold of your computer and routinely communicates to the itunes server.

I'm glad it works for some of you guys. Just because I hate iTunes doesn't mean you can't love it. Have fun.:kickass:

Any other Linux users (JBroll i'm looking at you) out there that have tried amaroK?

amarok.kde.org

I absolutely LOVE it!

I don't like GUIs, but it was nice when I did use it. Preferred Banshee, though, and I can't remember why. Now I actually do use terminal-based little bastards like the one I posted, and if I'm feeling graphically inclined I'll use XMMS (not Audacious, XMMS!) or VLC.

people who complain about software for which they have neither opened and set-up the basic preferences dialog, nor read a single help topic... much less paid attention to the initial prompts that pop up the first time the software is launched... are fun. really.

the vitriol spewed about a function or process that they could easily disable... is priceless.

People who are condescending towards others regarding unintuitive software that is a nuisance when used with default settings are really not fun-- really:Smug:

The obnoxious overzealous defence of software that is not universally enamoured... is priceless. And laughable:lol:

Get over it dude. Not everyone is infatuated with your beloved :notworthyiTunes.
