On Dec. 17, 2002, Earth and Saturn will have their closest encounter in
nearly 30 years. Furthermore, the planet's rings are tipped toward
Earth.
It's an unbeatable combination for sky watchers who can easily see
Saturn's rings using backyard telescopes.

That's cool! I just wish my telescope's tripod hadn't broken...and, I'm pretty sure I'm getting a new one for x-mas, so buying one now would be in pretty bad taste.

i have the tele from MARLBORO. ITs ok. NOt the best....but it works pretty good.

My astronomy professor says that he thinks the best purchase for your money is a good pair of binoculars. They are cheaper than a good telescope and have some other advantages i cant remember.

He also said that good binoculars have other uses too, like bird watching, seeing nature, and going to the beach

My cousin at nasa says the same thing about binochs......if you dont have a load of cash to throw away...get the BI's.....but i still prefer my Marlboro tele....

BTW....next week, its the same as this week.....you can check the planet then as well...

im a bit confused as well...but it seems that way... i wouldnt take a chance if i really wanted to view it. The other mail came today........it was short.....and just said, that the 2 planets will be in the 30 yr zone next week as well....
