Not at all pointless, it guarantees Skoal an extra half billion in income every year, and guarantees for a few hours on the weekend i have to dodge a few less jacked-up pick ups on the road.
i use to watch a lot of nascar when i was little, i liked it. I remember the race with dale ernheart crashed and died, that was sad. But i don't have cable since i live on my own so i don't care for it anymore...i only enjoy the crashes.
I suppose none of you have ever turned wrenches or crewed for a team before.
I've been doing it since I was 13 years old. There is more involved in the sport than you would ever be lead to believe.
Not to mention how hard it is to drive the cars when everyone is under a very strict set of rules, there is a very fine line between a good car & a VERY bad car.
Juan Pablo Montoya, who is well versed in every form of open wheel racing has even said Nascar stock cars are the hardest to drive. They handle poorly, they are heavy & are heavily areodynamically challenged.
It takes ONE hell of a driver to wheel one of those cars around a track, even if it is left hand turns only.
It's sad to see Nascar still holds it's 'Redneck' image to so many ignorant & misinformed people. Go to a race and you will see hill billies & rednecks outnumbered by 'normal' acting & looking people.
Well, it appears quite simple to the people that aren't involved in the "sport". Since this is the case, it's easy to call it a redneck sport, because rednecks are generally dumb as hell and easily entertained.
For someone watching a race, it's the same exact thing. It isn't entertaining or interesting at all.
