Congratulations once again to the NEARfest organization! Tickets for the 5th annual NEARfest are now completely sold out. Public tickets sales began on Saturday, February 15th at 10:00am EST. Within an hour, nearly 1800 of the 1851 seats were gone. The remaining seats were located either at the back of the house or were single seats scattered around the hall. By Monday evening, all seats had been claimed rendered yet another sellout and making us 5 for 5.

.........

Despite some interesting acts, I did not purchase a ticket. I'll save my money for the Brave Words and ProgPower fests.

Here's the bands confirmed for Nearfest:

Camel
Magma
Flower Kings
Anglagard
Kraan
Tunnels
Glass Hammer
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Alamaailman Vasarat
High Wheel

Are any of those bands actually 'metal' as such?

No, they're all progressive rock/avant garde/art rock/etc. The closest Nearfest has been to metal has been Enchant last year and Porcupine Tree the year before.

SGM's heavy in spots, but I still wouldn't call them anything resembling metal. They're even less so than Idiot Flesh was.

Neat choice, though, beside all the other true-prog bands.

Well the definition of metal's been stretched in the past several years... but their heaviness, while not constant, is worth a bit more mention than 'heavy in spots', because some of those spots are death-metal heavy, and I'd compare this band to some weeeiiirrddd stuff like Karaboudjan or perhaps Pan-Thy-Monium's less deathdoom moments...

NEARfest isn't Metal enough. Not that it's supposed to be. The whole Art rock thing isn't really my style for the most part. The best bands to play this show IMO have been Enchant and Spocks Beard (at least I think Spocks has played....) I love both bands but most of the bands at this show do nothing for me.
