Necrophobic - Death to All
Regain Records - 2009
By Adam McAuley
A rather melodic foray into the melodic black metal genre is taken by Necrophobic and they come out of the gates with a passionate take on the style they're performing. There are undeniable similarities to Dissection to be found here and this proves to be a positive element as that band is definitely worth emulating to a great extent. The songs have a fluid flavour that shows the quick riffs take their place atop the remainder of the carnage quite effectively.
An ability to draw you in to the sweeping nature of the music is present and you’re lured into the mix that the band create so effectively. The song “Revelation 666” is among the strongest on the album with it’s catchy melody lines and lead break that is found later in the track. Other songs follow a similar suit of addictive riffing, but none of the tracks really has an overly memorable slant to the proceedings unfortunately, making for a solid, but not incredible work.
Again, the manner of pinning down the exact type of style they play is difficult as there could be death metal influences here, but wanting to compare them to Dissection suggests strongly that they are melodic black metal, so this is largely what I took them as. Necrophobic do a great job performing the aforementioned style as well as they possibly can and craft a convincing brand of music for all to worship. Death to All comes recommended to those looking for just great metal in general, though if you’re a fan of Dissection you’ll enjoy the band even more. Just don’t expect to be blown away by the offerings on display as there is nothing quite overly amazing to be found.
