Dear Cythraul,
It should be obvious when the "art" that uses the unusual aesthetics happens to be obsessed with tapping out one fucking note repeatedly and includes what would be a normal metalcore breakdown with some pick scrapes thrown in would be a "work" which uses the aesthetic for its own sake that that album is the one that uses the aesthetics simply for the sake of having an unusual aesthetic, while an album which uses said techniques in a context with consideration for such things as melody and not including random fucking segues into unrelated ideas (including, but not limited to, metalcore breakdowns) would be the refined work of art. It should be even more obvious when it is considered that the entire idea behind the project in the former case was to "be weirder than Obscura".
"Happens to" is a careless phrasing on my part; the distinction is that the goal on Obscura wasn't simply to be weird or shocking, whereas the goal with Negativa was stated as such, and the final results show it.
Yours truly,my love; hopefully I'll see you in bed soon. You know what I'll be wearing
