What would be your pick between these 2 mic's?
Only for vocal recording, nothing else!

Well If your after a warm vibey vintage sound go for the 4047. If not go for the 103.

Also studdy meant that not all voices work with the same mic. Some people sound like crap in a U67, some others sound awesome in an sm58.

That being said, out of the two you mentioned, the TLM103 will probably work with more sources than the 4047 as it's a fairly neutral transformer-less type of sound.

4047: Fat and dark

TLM103: Bright and boring

TLM103 works great for nasaly or overly mid-rangey voices.

4047 works great for soft stuff, dont like it for heavier things.

103 is the nastiest mic myself and my business partner have used (he owns one and says it works on 1 out of 50 singers). However, my 102 is gold on nearly anyone. And great at controlling very aggressive singers or nasally mids. Not a fan of any AA mics, all of em sound grainy.

TLM 103 gets really nasty, stiffy and harsh in the upper mids on loud vocals. It killes however as a front of kik mic (HUGE low end) and for voice over. For Vocals I'd go 4047.

Seems like the 102 is kinda the antithesis to the 103 from your description. Mmmhh, makes me want to check it out. Ohh, the gear lust....

That's exactly what I wanted to hear! Tnx!

I like dark mice.... so 4047

Same thing for me!

From reading this I'm more towards AT4047 even thou I never tried that mic nor TLM 103! I've been using U87 for years now and just wanted to try something different but still with "attitude".

Does anyone of you own AT4047?

Neumann 102. Sorry but it sounds the most useful on the most things, and face it, the name sells work better than anything. Soon as I got it, within a week I had vocalists coming in because of it that paid for it. In a WEEK.
