I just found out, that it will be available soon in Germany, I am already wetting my pants listening to the stuff on myspace.
Everything sounds more "metal" and the guitars finally sound brutal
Only bad thing: they fucked around with Phils vocals ... sounded better on the fall of ideals, but vocals ain't that important for me anyway :D
still killer .
Anybody else getting the cd?
cheers

Already bought it. The songs are pretty similar to the last CD. I'm not sure what I think about the mix, it sounds pretty cool though. Overall it's a fun album, I don't feel like it's a big progression or anything.

I prefer their previous work to this tbh.
Fall of Ideals was better produced and Phil sounded so much better on it.

Holy shit, that one came outta left field! Imagine, a metalcore band that actually knows (and pays tribute to) a good actual metal band! I never thought I'd see the day

And now that I've listened to it, the acoustics in the intro are too low, the bass sounds like it's underwater, the singer sounds like he's half-asleep and wavering on pitch (not to mention constantly slurring all the words together), and the guitarist(s) totally can't match the expression of Loomis in the solo (they sound like they learned the notes of the solo, but none of the little transitions/vibratoes etc. to really give it that soul...such an underappreciated skill these days, it seems, being dwarfed by stupid speed contests)

Great record!

I think Phil's vocals are sick on Overcome. The mixes are nice and punchy. I like the guitar tone from their last album better.

I think it was a mistake to do a cover of a modern metal song. Generally I hate covers. To me it screams "our label told us we needed another song". No matter how good of a job they do with it, it will always be compared to the original and fall short. When bands cover "unexpected" songs (most of COBs covers for example, or Nevermore's Sound of Silence cover), they don't have the comparison as an issue, but it till always comes off as lazy to me. Not to mention breaking the flow of the album.

Since they did choose a modern metal song, I'm glad they decided on Nevermore. Those boys deserve all the attention they can get.

+1. I think its kind of pointless to cover a song thats new and done in exactly the same style as it will just get compared to the original. Why would I want to listen to this version, when I can stick the original on?

With a cover they should put their own spin on it.....

I haven't heard anything past the stuff on their Myspace, but the biggest change I did hear was the guitar tone and vocals. Going off memory, the guitars sound more "Meshuggah-esque" and "djenty" than their past stuff. Maybe I'm just remembering it badly, though. It did sound a little more raw or rough production wise compared to the polish on FOI.

Guitars definitely sound different. They sound similar to the new Acacia Strain guitars to me. I'm curious to know what amps were used on both albums. I suppose mark could tell us if he stops by. He's been very generous with amp information in the past. (thanks Mark!)

I have actually had the cd for almost about a month. Here is my take on it....

the first two tracks are brutal--- +2

the 3rd track is kinda about half and half for me....

and all but two other tracks on the cd are not really that good in my opinion. It may be the mix...who can say. I do think for sure that there is something really weird going on in the mix....and I am not digging the 2 and three part harmonies all over most of the singing stuff...mixed really strange. I look forward to hearing everyone else's tale on the mix/overall album mix.

FYI- You can hear the whole album on YOUtube but its shit quality...The high quality version (FLAC and high quality mps) are out there though :danceboy::danceboy:

I thought the last 2 were recorded by Adam D from KsE? I've heard many times that the first ATR was 5150, the 2nd (Fall of Ideals) was mainly a Soldano Avenger (possibly with a depth mod, but that may be an SLO thing) mixed with a 5150.

I've heard nothing about the new one.

I love the album and the drum tone is, IMO, great, but the guitars sound kinda thin to my ears...

Music-wise... holy shit, I love it!

I actually didnt get the guitar tones on this one... but they did use one of my mesa cabs and 5150 II. I believe the guitars were 57 and 421 through API. I was working on order of ennead at the time. I did engineer all drums and the mix however.

I do have the scoop on the drums if your interested and some other stuff if your interested.
