New ALL THAT REMAINS record

I actually didnt get the guitar tones on this one... but they did use one of my mesa cabs and 5150 II. I believe the guitars were 57 and 421 through API. I was working on order of ennead at the time. I did engineer all drums and the mix however.

I do have the scoop on the drums if your interested and some other stuff if your interested.

You're the man! Definitely interested to hear about the drums.

Yeah I'd love to hear as much as your willing to divulge!

Haha what else would jason do besides record? Is he on to another business venture im not aware of? He produced and mixed the record yes, haha.

Anyhow, on to the drums. We recorded up at big shot studios, prolly one of the nicer places in orlando, besides transcon it was home to alot of the boyband records and britney spears and such during that boom, haha. Either way, GREAT room over there and a great SSL 6000 as well.

We used our 5 piece DW kit typical head treatment, emperors on top ambassadors on bottom.

Kik was a D6 and subkik through API pre and 550b eq.

Snare top was an i5 though an ISA 110... love those for snare.

Snare mid (i actually mic the shell, works killer) was actually sennheiser 441, i usually use a LD condenser but this was cool this time around through a isa 110 as well.

Snr btm was 57 through the SSL

Toms were 421 top and bottom. Top through api pre and 550b eq and bottom through SSL.

Main crashes were AKG c12's through API. LOVE those mics on overheads.

China was a km 184 through API

Hat was 451 through SSL

Ride was sm 81 through SSL

Rooms were royer 121's through avalon

A pair of 414s through...i cant remember what pre's i used haha.

And a boundry mic stuck to the wall behind the kit through a drawmer pre and smashed through a distressor. Wish we had a pair... that was a really cool sound.

I cant remember what got used in the mix as far as room mics but i know some were in there and you can hear em a bit more on the snare on the believe in nothing track you guys love so much :p

I gotta say... that room at big shot just sounds awesome. I'd love track a rock session there where we arent worried about double bass and tightness as much. Its just a great place for that... the room sounds were alot fun.

I'm always curious with all them Mic's and all that work setting up if any of the original toms, kick or snare actually make it on this recording, or if they just get sample replaced in the mix? Seems like everything is being replaced 100% these days, besides like overheads, hats and ride. Maybe you have some details on that Mark?

Just so you know, I have not heard the album yet but I love ATR so I will pick it up without a doubt next time I'm out. Thanks for sharing that info above Mark very cool stuff....

Hate to be no fun here... but what exactly are you getting at? Not sure i understand.

And for broken 81... as far as the drums on this record, The kick was replaced and the Snare was blend of sample and real snare. The toms are 100% real.

I think the point they are making is in your original post, you said you mixed it...So, naturally, people are asking if Jason mixes anymore, or just produces...As in, he produces or engineers the tracking sessions, and then you mix. I could be wrong, though.

NO NO that is not what im saying at all actually. I said i "engineered the mix" I am not claiming to have mixed the album and that needs to be made very clear.

Mix engineering is basically me putting the samples on drums, setting up and preparing sessions, and doing any sort of editing at all that might be needed. Reamping guitars, tuning vox, As well as providing any other opinions or support during the mix etc...

Its a very common thing for a mix to have an engineer to do this type of thing and i do that for nearly every record jason mixes. Andy is one of the few big mixers that i know of, that actually doesnt have a mix engineer. Understandably so, as he doesnt need one nor does he trust anyone for that matter :)

I hope that clarifies.

Thanks. That's all I was wondering.
