New Band New Stuff!!

ok other than just saying it sucks. how abotu some information on the mixing and eq. how everything needs to sit int eh mix.. ignoring the performace side of the song can you tell me what you think needs to be fixed in the mix?

Firstly, getting the performance right is essential. Yes, you can turd polish to a certain extent, but you're making life hard for yourself from the outset with poor performances.

Secondly, myspace mixes are compressed badly. If it's not a great mix to start out with, once myspace gets a hold of it and squeezes the life out of it, it's not going to be easy for any to offer much advice. Check the other threads for where they host their tracks and maybe use one of those.

From what I can hear. It sounds like it is either drenched in reverb or recorded in an untreated garage or basement. The playing isn't tight, the guitar sound has too much high end. The bass is out of tune.....a world of problems.

To be constructive....start with the basics: performances and sounds. Make sure the instruments are in tune, the guys playing are tight (near enough is not good enough), and the sounds in the room are good. That's the foundation from which all good recordings are made.

yah it was recorded in a basement on location where they practice. im going to record them and i know im going to do alot fothings differnt.

I was thinking about that. when i rerecord them in a month or so im going to track everything better and use sample for the snare and kick. I just have to learn how to use drumagog now.. :)

Yeah, Drumagog has saved my life! lol, my mixes would no doubt sound pretty shoddy without! A nice beefy kick sample never goes miss! :) :Smokin:

ok, not to be an ass but this is a terrible mix, honestly. I can't hear the drums hardly at all, are they even in stereo? The guitars are taking up way too much space, try a high pass filter at like 80hz or so. Everything sounds clipped or compressed, especially the drums, lay off that a bit. That high-pitched guitar effect near the beginning sounds terrible. Basically everything sounds really dark and unpolished. What was your recording setup? I think your main thing you need to fix here is notching frequencies to make everything sit on the same level. The vox are way back in the mix too. Basically everything is just really hard to tell whats actually going on, aka it lacks any sort of clarity. Once again, this is just my opinion, don't get pissed, just work on it more. Also if this is your first real mix, its not bad for a first mix, but don't sit on this thinking its decent, just keep learning and you'll figure it out.

i know : / i didnt mean it was good. its sounds alot worse than it really is on myspace. ill put it on soundclick or something so you hear it.

maybe fix your link... use the edit button

as for the mix... I feel it needs some work... I probably wouldn't describe it as descent. do you have a stereo monitoring system... learn to use the pan knob some
