If people want to listen to it, the band put the complete album on streaming in their MySpace site.

The shit delivers the good heavily :headbang:. This is going to be one of my top ten albums of the year.

I think there were a lot of King of the Grey Islands fans in here. Me for one, it was in my top 5 year end list. Haven't listened to the streaming of the new one yet, will soon....too busy with the Mastodon record!

I love KOTGI too and I think this is a great follow up. I downloaded it two days ago and I have been spinning it quite a lot. Can't wait for May 5th to purchase it.

Well obviously us UMOS people know better than common folk but generally it had a somewhat lukewarm reception. I guess the main reason for that was the fact that the songs were rather droning, by Candlemass standards anyway. Which for some strange reason was one of best things about KotGI for a power metal guy like me. It was just a heavy monster of an album.

Death Magic Doom seems to be more varied and that really is the traditional strength of Candlemass. They're not a strict "doom for doom's sake" borefest but rather an epic and heavy traditional metal band like Sabbath.

I like your views on KOTGI and DMD, to me both albums are good powerful doom, maybe Leif Edling solo album is slower paced but the latest Candlemass ones (including the s/t with Messiah) deliver the type of doom I enjoy the most. Same with bands like Solitude Aeturnus, Thunderstorm, Forsaken (and more).

Originally posted the following on the PP section but OS is probably a better place for it:

Got the new Candlemass yesterday and am quite impressed. For those who will probably moan that the new Heaven and Hell doesn't have any fast songs (as per the reviews going about - kinda like Dio's Master of the Moon) then DMG will be an ideal substitute. Myself, I love the more Heavy Metal direction that complements the doom. On my first listen, I got the same chills as when I heard Overdrive in the early 80's. Especially between 4:12 - 5:20 of Demon of the Deep.:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I agree. What's ironic though is I know there are lots of trad metal fans who are ga-ga about the new Sabbath album but won't give a chance to Candlemass because "they're doom metal and I don't like doom metal". And it looks like it's Sabbath that's delivering the doomier stuff after all.

Oh well, it's a good time for classic metal with these two albums coming out shortly one after the other. The Candlemass is already out here but I haven't picked it up yet, listened to the stream through and loved it. Their best ever album even?

I hadn't been able to buy it (comes out of May 5th), but the new Candlemass (we had a thread already that I'm gonna merge with this one) it's a great heavy doom album. Actually I have seen a lot of positive reactions to it as well as the previous EP "Lucifer Rising" (that it's indeed a neat EP with some new songs, some re-recorded stuff and some live songs).

If the new HAH it's indeed doom it will fit perfectly with Candlemass and Forsaken new material for me.
