New Emmure vid

Hey Joey, since you mastered the Emmure record yourself I was wondering at what point do you move from mixing to mastering. Is it the final step after the mix is done or do you work it in slowly on the stereo buss? Also, what do you use in the mastering chain, EQ, Comp, Limiter, Outboard or plugins? Thanks.

mixing and mastering for me isn't a separated process

i do both simultaneously

as im adjusting the mix, im hearing it through the master
as i'm adjusting the master, i'm able to change the mix

you start both at the same time.

I think joey will tell you his mastering chain is
the 'not gonna tell you'
preset on ozone

he is 100% in the box though

yeah, sorry guys.

there's already a lot of wanna be copy cats out there for every producer, me included. the last thing we all need is someone who doesn't want to form their own style and just wants to copy settings.

sharing is caring. besides, no one is asking for specific presets. i think it's a fair question. sharing that you use L3 or whatever plug in it may be doesn't make for copying settings IMO. we all know andy uses a tc finalizer, hell even andy wallace shared his ssl buss comp settings and where he likes to run it at. even if someone else used someone else's exact presets and gear settings it's still upto the person to make the mix happen. how do you figure non of CLA assistants or big time engineers assistants ever make it big on their own except the naturally talented ones. i don't think there's any secret here worth guarding.

just saying.

i use ssl comp and ozone

I have been running my mixes out to a chameleon labs 7720 and then throwing ozone on last with some good results

i still don't understand why people can't see this as a form of art like anything else
even if its mechanical, repeatable, manufactured even...

00000000 or 01010101010 what does it matter

some dude is hanging upside down right now in his backyard, and throwing red paint on a blanket, which will later be framed and sold for 250 grand

and some dude is palm muting 0's and 1's on a mac book right now which will later be sold on a 10 dollar disc to thousands of kids who will attend the tours so they can kick the air

there's really no sophistication to be had here. its art. if you want something else, go find it!

Totally agree.

I have always stuck by the theory that it is far more challenging in music to say something simply than to rip into polyrhythms fast solos and all the complex stuff. Don't get me wrong, that stuff sounds freakin cool but if if you can make 0101010 chugga chugga sound cool and make your fans move to it each time you do it then +1.

I have fairly limited skills on guitar but I love to create so I push myself as far as I can with what I can do. If it sounds cool I'll roll with it no matter how simple it is.
