New Evergrey song "Fail" is up

The only cd of theirs I can really listen to all the way through without skipping a track, is in search of truth, even though I am a big fan. I like all of their cds, but only all of ISOT.

Blah, blah, blah.....whine and whine some more. "Fail" is typical Evergrey.....simply GREAT. I've been a fan since "Recreation Day" (yeah...a little late) and own everything they've done, and to this day I don't know why people bitch about MMA (my personal favorite). It's got "heavy-as-hell" songs on it, tons of hooks and that patented Evergrey songwriting. Passion and aggression, something they've had since the beginning. In my opinion, if you didn't dig the last couple efforts by the band, you never really dug the band at all.

...FIGHT!

I think Evergrey's just hitting the point now that bands get to when they've released so many albums. It's just hard to please anyone. As someone above said - if they release something sounding new (MMA) - insulted. If they release something like what they've done - sounds like heard it before.

All the bands with longetivity go through this it seems - Edguy, Sonata Artica, Gamma Ray, Evergrey, Dream Theater, even Blind Guardian to some people

Nightwish is still going good though. Though you have to wonder if Tarja was still in the band, would people be making similar comments like here

Regardless, I like the song. Not their best single by any means, but its the Evergrey I know - and it is melodic which I also enjoy.

I'm a big Evergrey fan as some of you know (or could figure out based on my avatar) so I'll get the disclaimer out of the way up front. For all of you who think that a fan can't be unbiased, I freely admit that I don't love every song the band has ever done, but I do like the vast majority. I can say that about every single band in my CD collection and I'm sure if you're honest with yourself you can do the same.

That said, I do like this song... A LOT. Is it the greatest EG song I've ever heard? No, but it's a solid track that is a good introduction to the new album that I'm sure the band released in the hopes that it would appeal to a wide variety of people. Apparently it doesn't appeal to some of you, and that's fine - everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, to write off a band or an entire album after hearing one song is a bit silly. I've heard parts of the other songs in their "trailers" and you can find a couple youtube videos for another new song they are playing on tour called "Broken Wings" with minimal effort (which is way better than "Fail" in my opinion.)

Lastly, I hope Zod is correct and EG play at PPUSA X. I will be happy to have the extra room down front with the other EG fans showing my appreciation for them doing their part in keeping this genre of music alive that I love so much.

I still like Evergrey. They're a great band and I loved some of their CDs.

I just, for some strange reason, feel overwhelmingly compelled to move on after only a track or two of theirs. I will absolutely listen to the new album when it comes out...I just fear that it won't be in one sitting.

I was hoping this new disc would rekindle my love for Evergrey's music. However, I guess these guys just don't do it for me anymore. Their sound is so distinctive, that I just get a "been there, done that" feeling when I listen to a song like this. I suspect I'll skip their ProgPower X performance.

Zod

I call dibs for your spot on the rail. I kinda feel bad for anyone in front of me during THAT set.

I believe there's a lot of truth in your first statement and I'm pretty much on board with your opinion of the song. I like it; it's typical Evergrey, but nothing fresh. Evergrey runs hot and cold with me. I like the heavier riff driven songs but the emotional angst ridden ones bore me. But that's the way I roll with most bands. I am also one of the ones that enjoyed MMA - not all the songs but quite a few of them. I've been at a bit of a loss as to why there was SO much negativity over it. It was a solid album of experimentation and very enjoyable to me. Was refreshing to hear them do something different, though I wouldn't want that to be their "new permanent" sound.

As for the negative opinions of EG music, it amuses me more the people complaining about people expressing dissatisfaction with the song. By my count the thread tally actually stands at:
Like the song: 14
Dislike the song: 4
Neutral: 2
Feel free to count for yourself, but really, there isn't THAT much bitching about this song, unless Zod's opinion counts as more than one. :p

I like it. It does sound like something from the In Search of Truth era to me as well, but it would sound better if Swano mixed and mastered it, hehe, cause didn't Swano mix and master ISOT.

If memory servers, Andy LaRocque mixed/mastered. I could be wrong though. But I'm pretty sure Swanö had nothing to do with any Evergrey cd. Though I do know his wife is thanked in at least one of the albums. (Might have been ISOT)

Bwa-ha-haaa! That's pretty damned funny! Very cool!:lol::lol: And now, in perfect Comic Book Dude fashion, I shall don my cloak of invisibility so as to avoid getting my ass kicked by Zod.

Christ all these people who hate anything new and the rest complain when it isn't new. MMA was new, and people hated it.
I think Evergrey is a victim of their own uniqueness. Tom's voice, the palm-muted guitar work, the dark vibe, etc. There are very few bands whose sound is as recognizable as Evergrey's. Unfortunately, that's a double-edge sword. Because they sound so unique, they're more likely to sound like they're repeating themselves. Unfortunately, when you pair this with a decline in songwriting quality, you're going to unearth a number of critics.

My criticism of Monday Morning Apocalypse had nothing to do with the change in direction. My problem with it was that it is awful. Seriously... I've never been able to even make it through that disc in one sitting.

Seeing as how I bitch and moan about most thing, it should count less.

God bless you. That's exactly my problem with the album as I mentioned above.

THe song starts out good, loses some steam towards the middle but them holy hell it picks up big time at the scorching guitar solo part and never lets up to the end. Count me as a fan.
