It comes across as lazy.

"We spent the whole budget on recording and cheetos, just throw a pentagram and a skull on it, nobodys gonna notice"

If only more bands would realise that the cover art is often the first point of contact between the band and potential buyers, maybe they'd put a bit more effort in.
