Holy frak, I wasn't even aware they were releasing an album ! This is my favourite "extreme" (kinda) metal band ever, so I'm stoked and immediately bought it. I'm giving myself a few days to judge it, so far the opening song is kinda Meh, some generic Hypocrisy, I just like the more old school vibe it has, not like the last two albums which have the few hit songs and nothing more. I miss the The Arrival/Hypocrisy era when they were more about mid tempo songs, variety, and epic melodies. That's what this album is supposed to come back to (but I haven't listened it even once yet so I can't tell).

Bought the album when it came out. It's not bad but not that overwhelming. Kinda something I hear when travelling in the train or so.

The Arrival has to be my favorite metal album as a whole. I sort of love/hate Catch 22 (original version) as well. I like a few songs from the earlier era (the obvious ones, especially Apocalypse which is one of the most epic songs I know, with Fire in the Sky) as well but my favorite are those when he started writing more melodic songs, and before it became more generic with Virus and the next one (Virus still has epic songs but the production is nothing interesting - if not bad -, while The Arrival, even though not on par with the best producers out there, is incredibly rich in all kind of sonorities you can expect from Metal, like every single song is produced differently to the previous one)

Still haven't had the chance to listen to the whole thing, I was underwhelmed by the 2 or 3 first songs, they are good but nothing special, like following the modern formula for Hypocrisy songs.

I just hope it is not like the previous album, where I listen to it a few times only, then forget about the songs beyond the 4th or 5th one, and end up listening only to the few catchy ones, while I can still listen to the whole the Arrival album now and then with pleasure

What's the album with the track "Born Dead Buried Alive", that's the best song they got for me, the bass slide at the end rules over all other bass slides.

This song is absolutely unreal, it's such a perfect intro, and the awesomeness of the song after it, the Eraser (which by the way is the song that got me into metal "for real" further than guitaristic metallica and co) makes a legendary intro for an album IMO.

By the way, there is something about the production of The Arrival that makes it enjoyable to listen. The guitars might be digital sounding (Sansamp PSA1), they sound smooth in a way and let the choirs cut through, and I like that the drums aren't overpowered, in some songs it's actually difficult to hear the kick drum. I don't know why but I like the production choices on this album a lot. Hell I even love the artwork.

Listening to the album now, I actually like the groovy-crazy riff in the 2nd title, and the low clean manly voices, sounds more like hypocrisy classics to me, I might have good hopes for this album after all !

Only 1 listen through so far but I liked it a lot  Never got excited about AToED

Me neither, but listen again to the opening title "Valley of the Damned", it's one of the most epic songs of that year IMO

I have been through it while working on something else yesterday, so far slightly disappointed cause it seems there no song standing out of the album but I enjoyed it a bit more than the previous one, I might change my mind after a few listens though.

I feel the same way. The Arrival is easily my favorite Hypocrisy album, and definitely "up there" as one of my top favorite metal albums as well. The new album is good, but it's more of like just good music to have on in the background to kind of drone out to... it doesn't really engage me. I don't think it's bad, but it doesn't really stand out either. I'm just happy to have new Hypocrisy, so I can't complain too much. :)

The thing for me is that I really don't like End Of Disclosure (the track) and that initially set up a bad vibe at the rest of the album. But when I started skipping that track, then I really started liking the rest. Thy Spinless is really cool.
