New in the Nutward: The Salvation of Metal?

I see you're back.

You seem intelligent despite your rather extreme views on things. Surely you won't be stupid enough to make childish comments about Chuck again on the Death forum.

Oh and thanks for the link.

That's interesting, I also read some of the previous editorials. Some of the criticism of bands "rehashing the formulas of the past" though (on editorial #4, which I agree with), comes less from a lack of ideological drive than from plain old lack-of-talent. I guess you could say their "unfocused" (hehe being kind) creativity is the result of ideological aimlessness, though.

Also, the idea that the "epic" and heroic traditions are the only worth writing about is limiting. On the other hand, there is a glut of self-indulgent introspection in songwriting these days, leading to the "everything is ok" standardless mentality that i think the author of those articles is really reacting against.

Wow. That would be fun to pick apart point by point, but I don't have all day to do so.

I disagree with the background suppositions and I disagree with most of the arguments, and I disagree with the conclusion, let's leave it at that.

"They see advancing the artof metal as the only legitimate means of achieving progress. The populists see metal as entertainment, a vehicle for transcending their social limitations."

Ah gee. Try as you might you arent going to be able to categorise metal listeners into two completely opposite types. Furthermore i think the 'entertainment' thing is not the primary focus of most metal listeners, though i agree it may be a part of their music taste.

I really cant be bothered with the rest for the moment. But i will say, that as with all your other points they are valid about a minority or as a small comment about certain extremes, but become rediculous when you try and say these things are the only valid things in music, or that your observations are accurate for all metal listeners.
