New Labrie - Agony

That song is alright i guess. The mix is a bit messy and the vocals are a bit burried, but thats more about the arrangement then the mix i guess. But im gonna check out the rest of the album later ofc :)

The previous album also had a great mix. This solo project of labrie it´s better than the last albuns of his main band!lol

Hi. I wrote most of the record and produced it as well. Very happy with the way it came out. I think Jens did a fantastic job. He's always a pleasure to work with!

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt, congrats, it sounds pretty nice! I especially like the guitar tone which I think is better than in the previous album. Can you share any details about it?

The last record we did, I believe Marco's rhythm tone was a blend of Engl Fireball and a Boogie Dual Rectifier.

For the new record, Marco recorded all the guitars (except for leads) through his Axe FX but we ended up having Jens re-amp everything in Örebro before the mix. I'm not sure what he used, but I just asked him. I'll let you know.

Cheers.

EDIT: Tony Lindgren from Fascination Street did the mastering.

Sounds very good (music and sound-wise), just like the previous album. Very curious to hear the whole album.

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing infos about it! The last album was awesome and I am totally buying the new on.

Did you guys do some tracking videos, this time again?

Also, did you track the drums again in sweden? Thx for any infos! :)

Hi Tony. Thanks!

There is some cool footage of drum and guitar tracking. This time, only the drums were recorded in Sweden.

Btw... Last time we were there, the studio was called Studiomega and was a partner studio for Fascination Street. Since then, Jens has taken it over and upgraded it, and it's now an official second location for Fascination Street. They use it mainly for tracking. Great studio, and it's run by Jens' main man, Johan Örnborg.

Cheers,
Matt

P.S. I just noticed you released a HiGain profile pack for the Kemper. Cool!

For years, Static Impulse has been my favorite mix and master, my main reference, especially when I happened to appear in the unknown listening environments and had to "understand" the speakers. An outstanding record in any aspect! So punchy and modern, yet natural.

After listening "Agony", I just can't wait to buy the new album. It's stellar - production-wise and musically. I love the breathing drums and natural feel. Defined, but glued. Perfect! The band, Matt, Jens and Tony did fantastic job!

Matt, just have to say, you are an incredible talent. Elements of Persuasion is one of my all time favorite albums. It was literally in my car's CD player for a year straight. Your music is incredibly inspiring.

I consider the James La Brie albums more enjoyable than anything Dream Theater have put out in years.

You are incredibly underrated and can match chops with Marco any day on keys and that's just insane! Marco is one of the best guitarists alive today.

Keep up the amazing work. I'll buy anything with your name on it.

Thanks again!
Matt

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the kind words! Can't wait for you to hear the new record.

Cheers,
Matt

Me, too! :)

BTW: Really appreciate any infos on the guitar chain, when you get the info.:worship:

Sorry for the delay. Jens has been super busy.

Here is the guitar chain info you asked for:

Guitar 1 and 2 (main L/R): Keeler mod Tube Screamer -> Old Mesa Dual Rectifier (pre 500 serial) -> Mesa Oversized Cab with V30's. Miced with 2 SM57's and a Royer 121, usually 1 of the 57's in focus.

Guitar 3 and 4: Maxon 808 Tube Screamer -> EVH 5150 III -> Old Marshall 1960-ish cab from –69 with Greenbacks. Miced in a similar fashion, probably had a Sennheiser MD441 in there as well.

Cheers,
Matt
