MERCENARY – post new track, reveal artwork & confirmed to support Megadeth!

Right on time with the release of their highly anticipated new album “Architect Of Lies”, Danish metal outfit MERCENARY has been confirmed to share the stage with the mighty Megadeth in February/March 2008. See below for the exact dates.

“Architect Of Lies”, the follow up to 2006’s “The Hours That Remain” (which subsequently was awarded the Danish Metal Award in the category “Best Album”) will be available on the following release dates:

DENMARK: Monday, March 17th, 2008
GERMANY, AUSTRIA, SWITZERLAND, BENELUX, ITALY: Friday, March 21st, 2008
UK, FRANCE, NORWAY, REST OF EUROPE: Monday, March 24th, 2008
SPAIN, PORTUGAL: Tuesday, March 25th, 2008
SWEDEN, FINLAND, HUNGARY: March 26th, 2008

MERCENARY guitarist Jakob Mølbjerg comments on the new album and the European shows with Megadeth as follows:

Hell yeah! What better way to kick off 2008 and preparing for our new album-release than getting out on the road with the almighty Megadeth? What a blast! We will be playing five shows with the Godfathers of Thrash during February and March, and four of the shows are even as direct support. This is an immense honour for us and a dream come true, as Megadeth has always been a great source of inspiration, as well as one of the main reasons I ever picked up a guitar in the first place. So check the new tourdates and prepare to 'Embrace the Nothing,' the new track on our Myspace profile. See you all out there on the Killing Roads!

Powered by countless live performances prior to the recordings, the new album certainly turns out to be MERCENARY’s most spontaneous album to date, combining melodic and dark elements, the catchy and the complex in irresistible metal hymns. To grant you a glimpse at the final result, the brand-new track “Embrace The Nothing” has just been posted at the band’s MySpace site, listen to it now! http://www.myspace.com/mercenarydenmark

Garnered with artwork by Niklas Sundin (Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity), “Architect Of Lies” will be released as CD and Limited Edition incl. the bonus track “Death Connection” & bonus DVD offering live footage filmed at Bang Your Head festival 2007 & Summer Nights festival 2007, a detailed studio report and the promo video for “My World Is Ending”. Sounds good. Doesn't quite have the impact on me as songs like 11 Dreams does. But its partly because it sounds almost too familiar. I do enjoy it, and have listened to it about 5 times already.

Listening to this now! Can't EFFING wait! :headbang:

Disappointed about the lack of a US release date mentioned in the above, though...

I agree, though THTR is my favorite. I wouldn't judge the new album by one song but it does seem abit Mercenary formulaic, too familiar, as Cheiron put it. And I am in the minority in hoping the melodic vocals stay dominant like on THTR.

I dug it, though the clean verse/harsh chorus approach kind of wears on me after a little while. I enjoyed the synths more than anything. That said, I'm looking forward to hearing more! :headbang:

This one seems a little more in line with 11 Dreams .. which is my favorite by a good stretch. On THTR the loss of Kral's vox really stood out to me, but overall the disc was still really good. One thing is for sure .. these guys know how to write catchy songs.

Seriously, the new song is fantastic, I can't wait to hear more!

Good song. I also miss Kral's vox though. Mercenary is a tamer beast without him.

i think its about the same, the vox on 11 dreams were great but on the other hand the vocals on THTR had so much harmony and thats the way to really steal a song, lost reality just kicks all over the place!

How is it the same, yet THTR is more harmonious? THTR is noticably tamer than 11 Dreams. Clearly the vox on 11 Dreams were more aggressive than on THTR, and the difference was the absence of Kral. THTR is an excellent album, but any song on it pales in comparison to songs like Firesoul and World Hate center.

Rene's presence will elevate the level of aggression in the vox, but not to the level Kral took them.

I don't really look at Rene as Kral's replacement. I look at him as a new member of Mercenary. I don't think anyone has the level of talent Kral did that would suit Mercenary, but I also think Rene does a fucking exellent job filling in on the old songs and can't wait to see how he belts them out for this one.

Bump....

I've heard more... samples... from the new album.

Too many death growls for my taste. Just not a big fan of them. However, the best song on the album IMHO is Isolation (The Loneliness in December). Can't get enough of that song! :kickass: :headbang:

I've heard the whole album and it is really good. It is more along the lines of Everblack than the last 2. More heavy and less proggy/technical than the last 2, more leans towards riffs and less keys. More keys than everblack, but not as much as the last one. I miss Kral though, because live I liked him and Mikael doing a lot of the singing together and some of the growls together, and if I remember right, Rene only did the growls.
