New mix with vocals from my band

I would recommend fixing that ride cymbal asap. It sounds completely out of place compared to the rest of the cymbals, which sound great. The kick gets super messy during the fast parts, which is odd considering it's so unobtrusive during the rest of the song.

I don't think the mix is too bass heavy at all. It's probably the opposite. Guitars are realllllly loud compared to the bass.

I wouldn't necessarily turn down the synth much. I would knock it down a dB of volume and then high shelf it down a dB or two, starting at 2.5khz(ish). It isn't that LOUD, it's just piercing.

You did a beastly job seating the vocals! Good work!

The guitars sound very nice, but I want a little less high mids in them and a bit more "sheen." They should be a bit more raunchy, like Testament's newest album (notice how I said A BIT and not a lot).

The fact that you're a super clean player is going to help a lot with getting tone. You can do anything you can imagine. I'd actually love to reamp for something like this...

Yeah I actually think its where I need to do some eqing on the bass and kick bc I think there is some fighting going on frequency wise. So I def understand.

I will see if I can address the ride cymbal issue also. Are you thinking that tone wise its awkward or performance wise? If its performance then I will just get our drummer to change it. If its tone wise then I would love to hear what you would recommend bc cymbals weird me out as it is.

It's not the TONE, it has to do with the velocities you programmed and the ambience track. I'm assuming you have a room mic on. Too much room is getting into the ride making it "verbed out" and way too all over the place when it's hit. I feel like the cymbals are all cohesive and then it's like someone shoved a megaphone on the ride bell. Get where I'm coming from?

I can't give too many comments cos I'm rather sick and everything is fucking loud and annoying atm, but..

That snare is a bit TOO poppy. Its really nice but some more body would be better I think. The kick is really muddy on the fast bits.. I think a new sample would be best :/ The bits at 1:51 sound fuckin SICK but clip like crazy because of the kick.
Agreed about the ride, you have to vary the velocities more and turn it DOWN. Its WAY louder than any of the other cymbals.

I don't really dig the guitars, the palm mutes sound kinda weird. I've heard better tones from you. It also sounds kinda flat at times (not tuning). Is it an impulse? Or real amp?

Take everything I've said with a grain of salt, because as I said, I've got a massive headache atm and everything is loud.

maybe its just because i was just listening to Nile - Ithyphallic before I listened to this, but it does sound really bass heavy to me.

Yeah I get where you are coming from. I think my ears were just blown out last night so I wasn't hearing it at the time. I will try and up a fixed version in a bit.

I think that the new version's ride is much better. Guitars seem quite bassy but I like them. I also like like the snare! Tell me that it's a sample and not an Addictive Drums snare.. Do you mix drums inside Addictive Drums or you just program drums? The only think I don't like in the song is the synths. Not the melody that they play but their sound. It makes the song a bit happier If you know what I mean..It's a matter of taste of course! I think guitars are 6505 green channel, right? Real cab or impulse?

I do all the drum stuff inside of AD. But I mix the snare with a slate snare too.

I can def see where you are coming from with the Synth, but I wanted to go for something poppier and more uplifting since a lot of the song is darker sounding. I still may tinker with it some though bc it is a bit drastic.

As for guitars its revalver with the JSX model and the S-Highpres impulse, bc I can't get my rig home right now.

I always have trouble getting drums to punch the way I would like. Mostly kick drum. I enjoy the snare quite a bit, but the kick I am never too happy with.

You have Slate samples, correct? Just augment the sorry SOB AD kick lol.

The snare, it has a great crack, but it doesn't slam you in the face. Work with the low mids.

I like it, and you have one of the best revalver tones on this forum! It would even be album-worthy IMO. The guitar may have very little of that "honkyness" in there though, so experiment with the eq on the low-mids a little. But ONLY a little, 'cause I think it's otherwise kickass.

What guitar do you use the most nowadays btw? Do you still have the Les Paul?

Yeah I am trying to find that midrange you speak of.

For guitars, its just my Charvel Socal with a single JB, tuned to B standard.

I will give this a go tomorrow. Thanks a ton for the help Greg.:notworthy

Any time!

The new clip sounds better to me.

The room mic on the snare is tiny bit overcompressed now. If you can HP the aux for that track a bit, you'll end up with a clearer sound. It may be the snare in general. This is my favorite kick so far though.
