When I was in college (I was a music major and I have my B.A. in music) a friend of mine used to tape our musicianship class with a microcassette recorder. One day he decided to place it on top of the professor's grand piano so that it could pick up the lecture and piano examples more clearly than he could from the seats of the lecture hall. What he got were the most distorted piano recordings I've ever heard - it sounded like the piano had been reamped through a Marshall. It actually reminded me of Brian May's guitar tone, among other things...
