New Nightwish single released!

didn't really find anything that memorable. some parts were maybe a little annoying. EDIT: actually the part that starts at 2:37 is pretty awesome

that video made me remember how much i HATE the drummer. i mean, it's cool and all to try to make your playing look interesting if you're otherwise a very boring drummer... but how can you OVERACT drumming??

Why is he dressed like Johnny Depp? That's the worst part IMO.

I kind of dig this in a very cheesy way. I used to refer to Nightwish as "Disney metal," and now that they've written a song about Peter fucking Pan I suppose I was right.

The vocal lines and lyrics are pretty shitty, but the music isn't too bad. I don't dig it too much as a song, but a hint of what's to come, it's got me excited. Amaranth was the single for the last album, which was a straight-up pop song, and then they brought out something like Poet and the Pendulum on the same album. This single has some really interesting orchestration, the mix sounds good and I dug the video, so I'd say it's done its job.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. Looking forward to the darker tracks they might have brewing in there.

I hate that thin guitar tone, and I still hate Annette's voice. I know I'm biased being a fan from the Tarja era, but still. Annette just sounds like nails grating on a chalkboard to me... idk what it is.

+1. Didn't you know.... he has a Captain Jack Sparrow identity crisis going on! I'm sure keeping with the Disney themes, he'll write a song about the Kraken or Davey Jones' locker or something. lol

Actually, both those things bother me too. Thought I was the only one, so I didn't mention it at first. Well, both those things and the largely forgettable song writing.

They've had better.

Guitarist always manages to sound like a vsti. However, I love their bombastic orchestral parts. Also didn't Kai Hahto do some drum session work on this album? Should feature some awesome drum work on other tracks of the album.

Imho they changed musical direction when Tarja left.
Seen them live, once with Tarja and once with Annett.
Although Annett is a good singer, she just cannot fill Tarja's shoes.

I'm a little pissed off cause I actually dig this. I really wanted to not like it considering how much I disliked their last one

I'll still wait to hear more before I decide to buy it or not

I'm not really familiar with this band, but have they always had vocalists with hilariously bad vocal phrasing? I really agree with Morgan on the vocal lines there.
I just checked the age of this chick and she's 40. Most of those vocal lines sound like it's some 16 year old chick that can sing well but has barely any concept of what would actually sound good doing vocals for her first goth metal demo, not a 40 year old woman that should seem pretty experienced at the helm of a super well known band.
I really just can't get through this song without cringing at the general vocal performance.
Unless that's the point, I dunno, maybe I just don't really get this genre, heh.

just a thought but maybe she's supposed to be sounding a bit child-like?

Its a tune about peter pan and child fantasy and such so maybe its just to fit the tune

Not defending or condemning, just observing

Well that's what I was asking at the end, whether that was the point or not.
I suppose it is. I don't dig it, but that clears up what I was asking :)
As I said, I'm not really familiar with the band and any of their songs really and just wanted to know if this was normal or not without having to go through their entire discography haha.

WTF?

Wasn't expecting that...

To be honest I LOVED DPP, but this is way too cheesy like most said. I seriously hope it's just one of their most "radio-friendly", could we say, song.

I'm expecting fucking epic songs :)

/E: I must say they always nail those orchestral-parts. They sound incredible IMO.

Who already mixed this kind of shit know how hard is to have big and fat guitars with orchestral stuff. I quite like the music. Anyway I really doubt that was her that composed the vocal lines. In tarja era wasnt her neither.
